Some of you may have xfire, the instant messenger for gamers...well I am here to tell you that its seemingly dead and buried.

NO support for Civilization 5 or F1 2010, this is simply unnacceptable.

I gather they have new owners and new people "working" there now, but good god, this is not how to make an entrance.

Xfire has served me well, I have many friends from using it and now I will tell them all "I'll be on steam".

Goodbye old friend

steam is better :p

Yep, before Steam Friends was usable and stable I did used to have an Xfire account, it was a great way to talk to friends especially when in different games to each other, but since all my games are now in Steam and you can even add the overlay to non-Steam games I just see no use for Xfire at all. A bit pointless unless you buy all your games on DVD's.

The only thing Xfire is good for nowadays is game time logging and recording (As long as it is supported), which I pretty much only use it for. Otherwise when it comes to chatting with friends, Steam is the way to go.

Can you use steam in game overlay features in game & still have full control over the game like i do with Xfire.

I like having the time always showing in my games in the corner as its easy to lose track of time while playing & i like to be able to type to people in game without losing game control, also when will steam get broadcasting support as me & my friends do that allot.

Er... broadcasting support?

I don't see the point in Xfire except keeping track of your hours played but then Steam started doing that last year too. Doesn't work when games run external to steam (such as launching Fallout 3 via FOSE) which is a pain but i can live with it. *shrug* maybe if you don't like/use steam but then there aren't many pc gamers who don't.

Shaolin... registered users is meaningless. I have a registered Xfire account but i can't remember the last time i actually used it.

yeah its dead and buried :p

I would guess that most of those accounts are old and no longer used. I still have an Xfire account but I haven't used it in ages because Steam is a lot better than it was.

Used to use it years ago when steam games weren't the norm, but now it's just redundant. Steam does everything xfire did and more.

Used it since 2004; It's less popular than it used to be, I've not bothered reinstalling it for a while now, but I think the OP is slightly exaggerating, as well as his reasons for stating that it's dead! :p

I don't use steam either anymore, totally hate using it infact.

xfire is not dead, so what two games havent been added within a couple of their release.

Steam for me is a bit too clunky. Good downloading platform.
