Debating over a macbook

Been after a new laptop for a while now to replace my aging one. Thinking off making a switch to a mac aswell.

Hoping to pick up a second hand macbook if poss, ive seen one with a faulty cd/dvd drive and HDD.

How much would I be looking at for replacing these parts, I will also need to OS for it and new charger.

There's a decent condition MacBook being sold by a member.

The item is on ebay at the moment (I believe it's still on £300), but if I see him I'll make sure he sees this thread.. you might be able to settle privately.

Not worth replacing the DVD drive.. the HDD is easy enough, but the DVD is not covered under warranty.

Out of interest, how much are they charging for it?
 
It certainly is.

For not too much more you could buy the lowest spec MacBook from Apple with HE discount. Just ring up and pretend your a student, they don't usually ask for ID.

Not in a MacBook, but I have in a MacBook Pro, it's difficult, but if you have the patients then you can do it.

HE, higher educational discount would be about £570ish, your supposed to be a student, but a lot of people just ring up and order and you can easil;y get away with it.

EVH does it all the time :p Plus if you ordered one now from Apple with HE you can get ao free iPod Nano.
 
Have a look here for the difference between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo.

From a Mac part seller (can't link as it's probably classed as a competitor),

Charger £55,
Charger UK adapter £10,
HDD depending on size, 80Gb is around £40,
Combo Drive is £145,
And Tiger OS is £89.
 
If you're brave, and you can get a bargain then yes, it's worth it.

However, if you're only getting the MacBook for £400+ then it's not worth the hassle IMO.

I use iFixIt when I need to do work, really is a great site..

oh and if you can blag the HE discount then it's worth it ;)
