Hey guys,

I don't want to spend stupid money, but I want good results.

I need ideally a 10 stop, but knowing they are 'lolcost' I've decided to opt for an 8 stop and simply extend the exposure a little longer.

It's going to have to be 77mm to fit le L glass, something that isn't cheap so I won't get any borders or light leaks but doesn't break the bank either. As I can't see myself using this overly much, and will probably sell it when I get back from Iceland.

So folk, what say you? :)

Thanks,
Jake

The Lee system is 100mm wide. You use a filter holder and adaptor rings to attach to your lenses. Well worth it. You can buy cheaper filters for the system from manufacturers such as Hitech, if your budget doesn't stretch too far.

I had a B&W 10 stop, and it had a red cast. I sold it for £65 on TP when I changed from Cokin P to Lee/Hitech. I now have a Hitech Pro Stop 10. The biggest issue I had with the B&W was composition and focusing. With the Lee system you can just whip the holder/filter on and off. The B&W was a pain, particularly when I used it in conjunction with grads. I bought from Teamwork.

There are tho ways to go:

1) Buy an expensive Lee big stopper. Dunno where you would get one in the UK but B&H is a guide: $180 and out of stock.

2) A circular ND10. Expect to pay a similar amount of money, if you can find one.

3) Welding glass. Costs a couple of quid. Stick on with blue tac.

i don't think there is an "in between" option. The welding glass is outrageously green but I have seen results by someone on OcUK who managed to do remarkably well at correcting the colour.

Hmm I think for this the Lee System may be overkill...yes I will be using it a lot on this one week...however, something like the linked above will do nicely.

Will keep my eyes pealed on TP :)

Hey Gaffer,

Not going to go the welding glass route...this is going to be an almost once in a lifetime trip for me. So a proper filter system it is.

Thanks,
Jake

Huh what? :D

What is it? 8stop, 10stop?

10 stop.

But hang on a moment. I've just checked. I've got:

52mm (in a Canon drop-in mount for the big white stuff)
58mm (for 50mm f1.4)
72mm (85mm f1.2, 180 macro)
82mm (16-35, TSE-24)

Why on earth do you want 77mm?

Andrew

£1.58 I got it for in the end, the one you linked me to was 23 day delivered!

USELESS!!! :p
