decent freespace - any way to get higher res and better textures?

Hi all.

Just got fs1 on steam while cheap. Loved the game years ago and wanted another go at it. Yet. The gfx are very blury and blown up cos of its res. Is there any chance there is a high res fix somewhere and possibly a high textures pack as the textures seem really crap compared to how i remember them.
 
Without googling I wouldn't know but an expensive fix is to buy Elite: Dangerous :)
Hope you find/get told about some awesome mods. Didn't the sequel get some massive overhauls, like a Battlestar Galactica remake?
 
better off with Freespace 2 and fsport (freespace 1 for freespace 2), should achieve what you want.

ah if its a glide wrapper you're after I can reccomend nGlide, very easy to use and doesn't do much to improve graphics but does allow for hd resolution which sharpens things.
 
the problem with freespace 1 there is not way to get better res or textures othe freespace open project uses freespace 2 and mod's the engine improves it greatly u can still play the campaign of freespace 1 on that using the videos from the original
 
Good luck with you're search. Just me, but i allways had more fun with Freespace 1 over the 2nd game. The ship to ship combat i found more intense, the swooping sound of the enemy fighters makes it more so.
