Decent game controller?

Interested to know what the difference is between the 8k PC and the ultra 8K model is. Not massively fussed by it being wired, I use my dualsense edge wired on PC 100% of the time so no change for how I use it.

I really like the placement of the extra shoulder buttons.

You're not gonna notice any difference in 8k lol let alone even 1k Vs say 500Hz u less you're ok the elite escort gamer leagues but then you wouldn't be using wireless anyways

I imagine there will be a wireless version - there was in the original announcement, but unclear why it was removed...
Probably because it's designed for competitive esports and there's not much demand for wireless in that market, so they removed the battery and rumble motors to make it lighter and lower the cost.

On further reading, there *are* 3 flavours:
Tarantula Pro for Xbox (white, wired)
8k PC (Orange, wired)
8k Ultra PC (Wireless)

But only the two wired variants are currently available to pre-order on the website.

So it looks like the Steam Controller 2 is only a few weeks away from being available based on the recent leaks (Valve accidentally uploading an entire unboxing video, 2 reviews going live early before being deleted and the leaked shipping manifest of all the controllers arriving in April).

Price looked to be $99 too - but no idea how that'll translate to us here. We usually end up being screwed so it'll be 89 quid...

My money is on $ = £ so £99.

Truthfully I am ok with that, although steep, it is a lot more tech than a “standard” controller which a good one will set you back £60-£80.

Yeah, I don't mind the price if it is £99. It's more the frustation of the non-existent conversion rate!

I'm looking forward to it releasing now, the rear buttons seem to be in a good place, the track pads will be great for certain games where moving around a map is easier that way or looting in games which support dual input (Arc Raiders is a good example of this).

Looks like it comes with the charging puck as standard too.

Will watch some reviews of the steam controller, i know linus also done a review on it earlier today :)

I had in my head (hopefully) £60 - £80 for the new Steam controller, realistically I wasn't expecting it to be below £100 especially when you look at the costs of the premium Xbox and PlayStation controllers so this was a pleasant surprise. Now need to have a look under the sofa for some cash as i'm coming up a few pennies short!

I've got a couple of the Gamesir controllers with TMR sticks. I've got no complaints at all, but I'm really tempted by the new Steam controller with it's pair of track pads, that could come in very handy when on the laptop. Or some pesky menu situations that just work better with a cursor.

I like the idea of the dongle for desktop use, not sure on having another cable for laptop, or how well the Bluetooth connection performs.

It's perfect for me, already have a PC in the living room for gaming. Currently use an 8bitdo ultimate 2 but that was always a stop gap before the release of the Steam Controller.
