Can anyone recommend me a decent space RPG? Something where I can develop my ship & maybe even a fleet, exploring & fighting etc.

Offline single player would be ideal (rubbish internet).

Thanks.

Well if you want something cheap and fun, FTL is nice.

Besides that there is the X series, X3 specifically, a VERY good and incredibly deep game however it's a little...let's say it's not easy to get in to.

X3 looks amazing, thanks all :)

Did they not make many retail copies? Everywhere is out of stock. I like having game boxes, so would rather get it on DVD if possible. If not, it's £14.99 on Steam at the moment, so will go for that.

X3 for SP Space game. Very much RPG RTS FPS all in one. And the mods/scripts make it... :O

Check their official forums for stuff. Like MARS turrets and CODEA carrier system.

Is there any particular X3 Terran Conflict I should be buying? Some of the ones for sale are listed as "2.0 Aldrin Missions". Is 2.0 just a standard patch?

That's a very good question, but I have two others to add:

1 - Does X3 support joysticks?
2 - How limited in size is the universe?

X3 is pretty good

I got it on steam in the sale a while ago, might come up in the christmas sale. (I bought Terran + Albion pack)
Takes a lot of time and has a steep learning curve tho.

1: Yes it does.
1: Freaking huge, there's over 200+ sectors to explore.

The learning curve for X3:TC is more of 75% incline than a curve, but it's oh so rewarding once you've got to grips with it, it is the ultimate time sink.

Where are you looking ?? On Steam or?

There are a few on Google Shopping listed as "2.0 Aldrin Missions". I'm guessing if I get the game from Steam i'll get the 2.0 patch anyway? I just wanted to make sure it's not some sort of expansion that makes the game loads better?

Looks like I'll end up getting it on Steam anyway. Is the Terran War Pack worth it for the extra £3 or should I just get the vanilla game?

Albion Prelude isn't very new player friendly, none of the x3 games are really but TC is easier to jump into without spending a month reading :p

I'm not really sure what the 2.0 Aldrin Missions thing is either, but I am sure it's just a new patch. Like you say, if you get it on steam it will be patched to date and anything 'extra' would either be spelt out to you or as DLC. The next game/progression is Albion Prelude which is a bit more combat heavy and difficult.

Btw, that youtube series Emo_hung posted is the exact one I were on about too, it's awesome and brings you up to speed pretty quickly.

Good luck and have fun, game is simply awesome.

It sounds great. I played the X games years ago.

I loved the space opera stuff, the strategy trading/mining side, the flight stuff.

That's what I enjoyed about Jumpgate.

But I hated the enclosed universe, the cartoon images of other pilots....

This has tempted me to try it again.

Until Elite is released of course...
