We all grow up into big boys one day. Then we understand why we buy these sort of cars and don’t stick with MX5’s.

Because when you can, you do. :)

If the original question was “Should I cancel my M2 order to buy a Cayman GT4?” the answer would have been a lot more straightforward!

Congrats on the new car, it looks awesome!

What's funny is that I still have an MX5, it's pretty similar to old ones I had in the past. I've driven all sorts and it's still a riot. Love them.

I'm well aware of the financial situation with the car but I heard some news recently where someone close to my family is dying of leukaemia and it made me really think of living life now rather than later. I'll have a beautiful house to live in, and certainly won't be struggling financially so why not.

Absolutely mate. Life's for living, we only get one go so if you can, why not treat yourself. It doesn't sound like its an unaffordable purchase so there's no issue. No reason you can't get something else much cheaper and more sensible for the little one when he/she arrives :)

Test drove a GT4 today at Perth. They had two to choose from ... a Silver non carbon ceramic car and a bright yellow one with ceramics and buckets which was gorgeous. Really enjoyed the test drive, so think I may be buying one.
The cayman gt4?? If so absolutely stonking car especially on a track. Having spent a good few weeks in Canada over the summer with my brother. I had a very good play with his GT4 on and off the track and have to admit it had me smiling from ear to ear.

If I had the moolah to buy one, I’d buy one in a heartbeat.

Did you see it at Knockhill? Great car and enjoyed lots of fun miles. Upgraded it with Decats, JB4 and KW V3 Coilovers. Pic below:

Aye, we had some sport at a Track Scotland night I think it was. Not many things up there stay solid in the rear view going up the hill, your M4 did, was mighty impressed with it.

Which track?

I am heading over soon and have Mosport lined up in my cousins muscle car.

Mosport is a proper old school special. Some serious opportunity to get it wrong not least as my cousin wants me to give him instruction
Haha yes Mosport is a fast track but never got around to trying it. Brother usually tracks his car at Cayuga but he has been to Mosport in the past with his now sold GTR and the GT4.
I’m planning on going next summer for a few mths so will probably hit Mosport...not sure which car my brother will have at that time. He’s desperately hankering for a GT3 RS or the GT2 RS porkers but at the moment crazy expensive as you would imagine. Or he’s been looking at the AMG GTR aka green beast of hell lol.

Wee update for you guys. I got the car a couple of weeks ago and have been enjoying driving it. Some pics including out on track at Croft, North Yorkshire.

I also just bought some Race Headers (manifolds without cats) from Dundon Motorsport so will update you guys when they arrive with weld porn! It should sound epic.

Collecting the car in the dealership:

Putting some miles on it ... poor thing only had 500 miles and had been a garage queen.

I'll be sure to take it upto Knockhill when the new exhaust parts arrive!

You gonna run it de-catted? You gonna map the emission light out or just run it with light on dash, probably wise as a map would end any warranty on car.
It is looking ace, be really interested how it sounds de-catted, when I de-catted my 911 it lost so much torque low/mid but gain 20HP at the top-end, sounded like a full on cup car too, but at the same time it also sounded terrible if that makes sense.

High flow cats were the best solution in the end, no low/mid losses and about 5-8HP gain at top-end and it still had a good sound, just a little bit louder.

You may enjoy this as your a Knockhill regular:

For me if I got or do get a GT4 my number one modification would be gear ratio's, then see how it feels, then if want more like you say some exhaust mods and a map should yield 20-30HP to put it over 400HP. :)

You got the lightweight spec so weight wise no more to be saved, so focus on gearing and power.

The headers I bought claim no CEL will be displayed and make between 30 - 40whp across the board and actually increase midrange torque. They also give an option for a cobb tune but only marginal gains are to be had on top of the headers.

I looked into it a lot and the company seem very well regarded in Porsche circles so will give them a try. Very interested to hear how it sounds. Should be epic.

Here's a link to the headers: https://www.dundonmotorsports.com/porsche/981-gt4-spyder-race-headers-425hp?carid=41

And claimed gains after dyno back to back with a standard car on the same day:

3600 RPM: +42 wtq
5000 RPM: +36 wtq, +34whp
5800 RPM: +15 wtq, +16whp
6500 RPM: +28whp
7000 RPM: +30whp
7500 RPM: +41whp

Our dyno read the stock car at 330.8 whp at 7400, Porsche rates the car at 385bhp at 7400, this is 14.1% loss with our Dynapack 4000 hub dyno running the car in Rolling Road mode using the factory PIWIS tools.

Dundon Race Header equipped GT4 is now at: 426BHP

Take American BHP claims with a pinch of salt, I had a softronic map on my car, which made claims of circa 25HP and had dyno graphs to prove, when I did before and after graphs at Powerstation it was worth like 4-5HP tops.

But yes these cars to gain from headers/exhaust, I did X51 headers on my 911, those netted around 8HP and more power everywhere, I then went de-cats with an X-pipe which netted 20HP gains above 5500rpm, but lost huge torque, so switched to some HJS 200 cel cats, which still triggered the dash light, but car sounded better, it gained everywhere, but in the end I think my car went from 356HP stock to about 368-372HP with cats, softronic, X51 headers, it was to put it bluntly a waste of money, yes de-catted it pulled 390HP and it could be really felt on road but so could the 50lb/ft loss down low it felt so flat.

Those headers look nice, just be warned, Porsche are very anal over any kind of modification, on a new car warranty you can get away with it to some extent as they have to prove modification caused the issue, but once you move to extended warranty they can just deny putting warranty on the car or a claim due to a modification like that.

You gonna get a dyno done before and after, shall be really interesting to see what you make, because you essentially have the updated 3.8 C2S engine I had in your car, but of course the version that won't melt itself.

Moving to the GT4 from the M3 must be a game changer, one is a tail waggler that struggles for traction and the GT4 is like a planted go-kart in comparison.
