Decision time: LG OLED55B6V vs Sony Bravia 55XD9305

That's the thing people think a tv needs to be bright have lots of pop, have a look at cinemas they are set up how the director wants his/her movie seen and not one has ever been eye burningly bright

I agree with your conclusions but the cinema example is a bad example. Almost all commercial cinemas run the projectors 'dim' to extend the life of the bulb. If you visit a good independent cinema (Picture House etc.) the images are significantly brighter than at an Odeon etc. Most film directors complain bitterly about the brightness of the image in commercial cinemas.

That's an urban myth. 20 years ago maybe but cinemas do not do this now.

Do you work in the industry? It might have changed recently, I suppose. But these are marginal cost businesses and they save money where they can.

All the big projector manufacturers (Sony, Barco etc.) offer a choice of bulb outputs and lamp settings that let the cinema run a dimmer, longer lasting light output.

The newer xenon bulbs are much harder to dim, but you can run different settings on the projector and when LED and laser light sources become commonplace it might be more consistently realistic.

Cinema daytime scenes should be REALLy bright if you think about it. And generally they're not.

having owned a 2016 OLED TV for a while now i am constantly impressed by the PQ i get. XBox1 works fine (Assassins Creed, Forza Horizon, Gears) and the contrast is astonishing.

My 55B6 came on Saturday and I spent most of the weekend going back through my blu-ray collection. They all look absolutely phenomenal on this TV and it's revitalised my desire to watch films.

What cabinet is that Participant? it looks quality but if it's over £150 nvm, some of the TV stand prices are insane. :p

seriously been playing for the past few days and there is no lag even with current modes.

I really noticed the input lag whilst playing Shadow Warrior 2 in HDR (PC), which is a first person shooter.

Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3 on Xbox One S weren't quite so bad because of the type of games they are (Third person/driving), but it was still noticeable.

Not unplayable but not a great experience either.

I can wait.

AVF Burghley FS1250, walnut veneer. It was £200 at Currys recently, normal price is £300 (one of those 'nobody pays that' prices I'd imagine).

For £200 I might be tempted but I'm guessing I've missed out now, I was looking earlier and they ranged up to £900 I couldn't believe it. I usually get a £50 job but they're usually glass or cheap wood, real solid wood will be worth more than gold soon. :p

I'm also tempted by these TV's but got a lot saving/selling to do, it's a shame they don't do smaller though bit hard to fit these in the corner.

edit: looks like it's still available, how solid is the wood? is it proper thick stuff or like two thin pieces with cardboard inbetween?

The important bits are very solid, the only flimsy bit is the lower back panel, which is thin because it needs to bend around the back of the unit. It's invisible from the front though.

We've had it for over a year now actually, so not sure if anything's changed in the construction since then. Looking back through my emails, we actually paid £300 :o.

We're really pleased with it in general and it's a solid construction; the only issue is that the cabinet doors were hard to align as they don't have fine adjustment, you have to adjust the frame to move the doors relative to each other. Also be aware that's black glass on top = dust and finger print magnet.

Configuration-wise, it was the only unit I found that satisfied all the criteria, including having a sound bar / open full width top shelf and being able to hide the gear, but still allowing IR signals to penetrate.

Also picked up a B6V this weekend and got it mounted on the wall - really a stunning step up from my old Sony LED TV - the picture quality is miles ahead (you'd expect as such!) but even the shop the LG seemed noticeably different picture quality wise to me compared to other sets around it.

Only really watched some Amazon UHD content so far and a bit of 1080p stuff but still impressed.

I'd say if you can stretch to it, go OLED.

Exactly same stand I have for my 58" Panasonic 4K tv.

Mines a dark brown wood, matches my wooden flooring.

Brilliant stand, bought mine for about £200.

It looks like a nice unit. Does it fit an amplifier on the lower shelf? (around 30cm height?) Doesn't quite look tall enough I think..
