I currently have a 640mb GTS, which is fine for me at the moment, but soon im going to be upgrading my monitor to a 1680x1050 20 or 22 inch. Where i think my GTS will start to struggle when maxing out games, even at 1680x1050.

I have 3 choices:

1: Buy a 8800GT - then buy monitor once i sell my old 640.

2: Buy a 8800GTS 512mb - then buy a monitor when i sell my old 640.

3: Buy the monitor, see how my 640mb is, then maybe wait for the 9 series cards?

Just wondering what other people would do? Would a new GT or GTS be a big improvement?

PS: i found a cheap new GTS 512mb, but its an inno3d reference card, what does this mean?

Thanks.

Problem with always going bigger on a screen is yes, you get the higher resolutions, but you just require more and more powerful hardware to run it at native res....

1680 x 1080 seems like a bit of a sweet spot between decent res, and having hardware capable or running games on it.

thanks for the replys so far.

I probably wont get much for my current 8800gts, since it was out of a prebuilt, its not boxed with anything and its an XFX :p

i used a 640 8800gts for almost a year, was a very good card, i recently upgraded from a 20' inch monitor to a 24', at 1680x1050 the older 640 card coped pretty well even with the higher res of my new screen, as long as aa was kept to a minimum. im now using the new g92 gts and its a fair bit better, im able to use aa/af in games, but you might be better keeping your current card till the next generation which may be only a few months aay
