Dedicated Ebook readers...anyone got any experience with them?

The new SONY will reflow PDFs, has touch screen and allows you to annotate directly to the screen. It's just a different beast to the N810 and I would not be comparing them at all. The eInk is significantly easier on the eyes.

Oh yes, its not a dedicated reader at all, was just throwing the idea in in case there are other people who like multi-purpose gadgets.

heh - that's an interesting idea - smaller fonts use less power - where did that come from?
Read what I said again, smaller fonts mean more on the screen at one time, which will necessitate fewer page turns, those being the activity which uses most battery power.

I didn't know about the e-ink displays, sounds like an interesting technology. And I must say I'm surprised because when that Amazon reader came out a few months ago everyone criticised it for its short battery life!

I suspect that that would be down to the wifi that is inbuilt in the Kindle. The eInk technology is not very power intensive at all.

They license ebooks and that'w where it fails. If I buy a book I own it and can read it then sell it or read it and make a tower out of my old books or use it as toilet paper.

DRM :(

You can buy plenty of un DRM'd books, same as you can buy un DRM'd music on the web, there is just no way to resell an electronic format.

I'd forgotten i'd posted this thread until I just did a search for ebooks:p (the joys of posting when knackered).

Thanks for the replies guys, I think i'm going to get a PRS-505, as I had a look at one in waterstones in Milton Keynes the other day and was very impressed with it, as was my dad and younger brother (both were with me at the time).

I'm tempted to wait for the 700, but as it took about 2 years for the 505 to get here, i'm not betting on the newer model making it over any faster.

Werewolf have a look @the bebook first ,i am torn between this Sony or the bebook
Bebook has more compatibility than the Sony and it has the ability to change fonts
Slightly more expensive though @around £225

Geez £200!! all looks awesome though, can't say im gripped with an e-book reader though , takes the fun away? But as for the peeps here that go away in read 7-8 books etc ideal! :)

I'd like one if I could get for free electronic copies of all the books I currently own. But that's never going to happen is it!

I would get one if the books were half price. How can they charge the same price as a normal book. There's basically no manufacturing cost or retail cost for electronic content.
