Deep fat fryer

I'm looking for my first deep fat fryer so I can make my own chips and veal cutlets etc.

I found this at half price and was wondering if it's any good. It seems very cheap.

Is it worth it or should I pay double to get a better one? I probably wont use it very much, so does it make sense to buy one of the cheapest fryers I can find?

Its Argos at the end of the day.

Keep the receipt, and if it breaks then take it back and get a refund. They'll take stuff back in any state so you've not got a lot to loose apart from the inconvenience

And if its something you dont use very much, this wont matter.
 
Our deep fat fryer was £17 in Asda and is doing a fine job. It heats up quickly, cooks food really well, and has a well thought out construction and ample capacity. You know you want to. :D
 
We used to have one but my brother came in drunk and left it on a couple of times at silly o clock in the morning so a family decision was made to let it go before we wound up in a house fire. Silly bro!!:rolleyes:
 
I got an "easy clean" Breville fryer. But no matter how well you clean, it still gets a build up of old oil in hard to get places on the basket handle.
 
How often do you change your oil, what do you like using, vegetable or sunflower?

Had one at uni but didnt seem to do a very good job, maybe because we didnt change the oil regularly enough :D
 
I have the old version of this one. Very simple, temps from 130 to 190c which is a must if you intend on doing chips.

I also recommend double cooked chips but if you have the time check out triple cooked.

I just see how things are cooking. If the oil starts to become smoky I change it the next time.

As for oil, most the time I use sunflower but if you want to be a little healthier, you can try groundnut oil which also doesn't smell too much. Or corn oil, though that does stink up the house.
 
I want one, but there just too unhealthy now these day's arnt they? Unless i sub my alcohol consumption for a fryer!
