Its sad because these people are looking for love but at the same time the red flags must have been waving in front of them constantly and they just wilfully ignored them. At some point you have to have some common sense and realise that at as a middle aged, surly, overweight woman you probably aren't actually attracting a handsome 20 something who has their pick of attractive people their own age. You didn't attract them when you were 30 years younger and you certainly aren't attracting them now. And thats ignoring the other issues of never being able to meet you and wanting money from you.

Watching GMB this morning and I thought this was quite concerning for the future.
Would I have been duped?
Perhaps not because as soon as cash was mentioned I'd be out of there because I'm tight.
Also it's a 77 year old woman falling in love with what looks like a very pretty 30 year old - red flag.

Would I have spotted that was a deep fake video?
Probably not to be honest.

Anyway, decide for yourself.
There was a funny moment because the woman wouldn't stop talking but apparently she lost her earpiece so couldn't hear Ed telling her to shut up.

Take a look at the TV series The Traitors. Even when they are told that they can't trust anyone, they are so desperate to trust others that they fall in to the trap every single time. People want to trust.

You can not trust anything you see or hear on the internet. How many times have people been told that? Yet they still do.

People always hide who they are. Of course they do. Everyone does it, but they want to put their best foot forward so to speak. How many times have I heard "They changed the moment we got married" !!! It's just that on the internet it's fiendishly easy to hide who you really are.

I think the best approach with this is to always consider that EVERYONE on the internet wants something. What do they want? Work out what their motive is and you can work out the intended crime for yourself!!

People have been trying to scam each other for as long as they've been able to interact with each other, this is nothing new. The internet and available technologies have just made it a lot easier.

HOWEVER! Having watched that video, that woman really should've known better, she's 77 years old, seemingly of sound mind and she's flirting with a 30-something year old online to the tune of £17k?

Come on, her alarms bells should've been on fire from all the ringing!

I've just read of a similar story of a recently divorced older woman who got conned out of £700k. The poor woman somehow believed Brad Pitt's mum contacted her saying he needed a woman like her, then shifted to him having cancer (sending pics from the hospital) and despite her daughter pointing out it was likely a scam - the woman told her daughter 'just you wait until you meet him, then you'll be sorry'. I mean, I'm just lost....

It's a bit disgusting that a 77 year old was trying to get a 30 year old by offering money. If it was a man doing it he would be called out as a desperate pervert.

It was probably her ex-husband knowing how gullible she is trying to get his divorce settlement back :D . Making an assumption but difficult to believe she was a wealth creator of the partnership given her stupidity

The video is realistic, but the situation is not.

No 77 year old should realistically believe a 30 something they met online is in love with them and needs £17k.

In fact, it is astonishing how anyone, however desperate, would hand over such a sum of money to a random person they met online.

The worst one I personally know of involved my ex Sound Man's Mum and she also lived next door to him.
She knocked on his door and asked him why he was asking for another £15,000.
He said what do you mean another £15,000?
She said that she had already sent him the money by bank transfer and now 2 hours later he wants more.

Charlie says, you can't protect gullible idiots like this woman....

if society wasn't caring for her then she would have been long gone due to making stupid decisions.

it's time we stop feeling sorry for the victims of scams and start calling them idiots.

I bet this woman wouldn't borrow 17k to a friend she knows in real life, but she will happily send money abroad ro someone shes never met...

get out the darwin awards.

I wonder how many of our new arrival friends have realised lonely old people are easy money banks

What a sad and shocking story especially involving such a clever woman. Also saw the Brad Pitt story yesterday.

I hope not to get caught out by one of these chicks from CES last week

Skynet won't need to nuke us all to inherit the Earth. Once they can mass produce realistic sex bot AI companions, it will basically be all over for humanity.
