Defense Grid

Great game, worth more than a few quid considering how fun it is.

Anyone have any good tips for the last few levels as its getting pretty tricky at times?

Just the ones you probably know by now:

- Make long paths, preferably ones that double back on themselves [It's pretty much the key to the very challenging 'Waste Disposal']
- Temporal towers are mandatory
- Can't go wrong with Cannon towers
- ... but don't think because you've got Cannons, you won't need Missile towers. You will, and you'll need to upgrade by at least one level, depending on how many you place.

Chong's posted some good scores, I notice - top 50 for one, if I recall. Grats! :)

Anyone else notice that after a while the guy's voice starts sounding like Terry Wogan? And that "The Cores" starts to sound like "The Corrs"?

No? Just me, then :D

Yeah, that was who I had in my mind when I was first playing the game and actually listening.

It's just that some of the inflection and cadence is reminiscent of Old Tel doing his DJ voice. There's one bit - I think it's after the first wave in "Lockdown" - where he ends with "Less talk... more lasers!" Cracks me up!

As I say, it's obviously just me. To be fair, I have been playing this game a lot - it's almost certainly audio-hallucinatory :D

The steam achievements seem bugged in this one. I've unlocked the complete the game one but not the complete the first 3 missions one

have you got gold in them? i unlocked it last night by getting gold the first 3 - i got one by only 3 points which I thought was pretty cool!

i also forgot about the backspace key, when i'd gone wrong previously i'd just restarted the game *facepalm* rather than go back a step - most useful I've found it now!

re the voice over, i thought it sounded like Jean Luc Picard - I expected him to come out with something like "status report number 1" rather than some drivel about raspberries.

Damn... seems i lost all my saved data. Bought it ages ago and got stuck on 1 of the later missions too so i'll have to go through it all again ><

Completed the final level last night. Had to think about where to place towers for quite a while at the start but had them going on a big long trek in the end.

Guns are pretty useful for stretching the course out, and red upgraded ones are actually really good weapons.

leaderboards for me are messed up.

Anyone think most of the towers are pretty much useless? I'm on the third last level and only use gun/cannon towers for the most part. I always put up a missle tower though.

No, heat weapons and temporals are very important. Lots of the smaller swarms really don't like heat.

i agree, fully upgraded gun towers and cannons are proper pwnage but they can't hit and damage loads of targets quick enough, so slowing the critters down and flaming them gives a bit of extra help (and dot).

i'm liking command towers too, if you've got a good kill zone and room, stick one down and watch the cash roll in. i also find missile towers useful, even with cannons. a lot of the time the cannons will stay focused on the critters running down the path rather than in the air if you can kill the airborne ones quick enough with missiles.

I forgot command towers and yeah I useually like to have a large kill zone covered with one. Pretty much the only thing I will never use is the tesla.

Cheers, just wish I could get the leaderboards working properly to compare. Never seem to work for me.

This thread has drawn me back to the game, haven't played it in months. Had a quick blast for last 2 nights... so addictive! :D

Inferno cannons are a must for levels with lots of little swarms. Laser cannons are very powerfull against heavily armoured big boss types but useless against shielded enemies. I also like their range so tend to put them near the orbs so by the time enemies get there, any shields are usually down by then.

Temporals are very usefull when you can group lots of level 3 towers together, makes them all twice as effective :)

Tesla's can be handy in very rare instances. One example is on the 10 tower tests. Sometimes the very last creature breaks through... so it's possible to sell a tower and quickly throw up a tesla right at the end. If you do it quick enough it will have a decent, powerful charge built up and kill the enemy in the nick of time.
