I thought I'd defrag my c: drive (2 x hitachi 80gb in RAID 0). Anyone know why there's a big gap near the beginning of the disk, isn't defrag meant to fix that or should I not worry?

Auslogics will only sort out your defragmented files, but you need a program like Perfect Disk to arranage smart placement of files, ie compact your files. It will also defrag your offline files like the MFT and move it to the the end of your drive.

I use diskeeper, its good enough for me and it lets you schedule defrags (and boot time defrags too) - I have mine set for when I am asleep ;D
