Looking to buy a Dehumidifier for my house (3 Bed). Any advice would be great. Also, any products to go for would be helpful. Thanks

I'm looking for possibly a cheap small one for a room actually, those crystal thingys don't quite cut it in our new flat.

Several years back my landlady just bought one of the cheap units from B&Q (advertised on the box as being for a 3 bed house) and it did the job fine. Its scary in the winter how much moisture gets into the atmosphere from drying clothes indoors, showers and having the windows generally closed.

Even scarier when you make Sunday dinner, and do laundry at the same time...cue half a gallon of condensation on all the windows, and emptying the dehumidifer twice a day. :o

if my window has condensation on the inside should i open the window/buy a dehumidifier?

buy a mobile air-conditioning unit, mine (airforce 16k btu) has many functions;

air-conditioner
fan
heater
extractor
dehumidifier

a good buy as in winter i can use it as a heater/dehumidifier and in summer as an air-conditioner/fan :)

Got one but cant say i noticed any difference, so never use it. Someone said here, and probably right, that they're a waste of time unless your room is air tight, if it is you need to worry. Air conditioner would be better.

A dehumidifier is a good thing to go for if your house has lots of Condensation and mildew etc. I have read up on it now and i quite like the ones in B&Q. The Airforce one for £150 looks awesome. Can be noisy though.

We've got an Amcor SD10 (£100ish from B&Q) and it is very good. It has a 10 litre capacity and if you leave it on full blast all day it will easily extract that! It is noisy but so powerful I have found cats that have been dessicated in the street just because they happened to walk past the house when it was on. :p

I've got a couple of the 80 quid B&Q jobs, had them for about 2 years. Only use one and i empty 10l out of it every day. Mother in Law seems to have aquired the other one somehow

Binocular me a...

Class, I was just browsing for dehumidifiers as the flat has been getting pools of water on the windowsills from all the condensation. I was wondering whether to go for a cheapy or if things like anti-bacterial filters and ionisers are desirable. Ebac 2650e is my favourite at the moment but probably a bit more than I want to spend.

We've got an Ebac and it does a good job in our 3 bed semi. It makes you wonder where all the water comes from TBH.

get a brand new mattress sleep on it for 2 weeks and you'll get a ~ 1 litre of liquids, er i mean water (sweat) out of it! Brainiacs know all!

That one looks really tempting. Do you find yourself emptying the tank often?

Well it all depends on the environment that you put it in. I have the fan blowing at the laundry, and after about 2 hours or so its full, and the clothes are dry.

It has auto modes, laundry modes, timer modes, ioniser, Anitbacterial silver-coated air filter, and uses new desiccant technology to remove moisture from an atmosphere. Instead of using a refrigerant compressor like the normal ones.

Plus the price has dropped quite a bit... I paid £150.
