can deionized water be used as a coolant? i have used it to flush a loop out in the past, but not long term?

i have been using some XSPC stuff right now, but i just got a 770 block so wanting to rebuild the loop but i know for crimbo the other half is/as got me a second 770 and block.

i am wanting to end up with pastel in the loop but not wanting to go throw 4 bottle in 2 months because is adding parts to the loop.
 
Same here. Used it for my first loop which I just finished a few weeks back.
Added some red mayhem xt-1
 
I have always used it in my loop and yes you need to add a biocide and corrosion inhibitor if using mixed metals. I used to use Primochill Liquid Utopia which does both but is no longer available so I have just ordered some Mayhems XT1 clear which makes up to 3 litres of coolant. I would have used Mayhems X1 clear but it's out of stock. Asda has deionised water at £1 for 2.5 litres at the moment.
 
Just started using Mayhems XT1 clear. Nice stuff, previous additives I've used in the past have always had a slight tinge of colour to them, but this one does seem to be truely clear and colourless.
 
Using XT1 makes up to 3litrs mixed with deionized water, filled loop ten months ago still crystal clear with no change in temps.

Great Value.
 
Good to see I have made a solid choice with the XT1. Although it makes up 3ltrs my loop is 2.5ltrs so one fill plus some left for top ups. That will do me fine.
 
DI will not be enough on it's own if you have mixed metal components in your loop.

Coolants with biocides and anti-oxidants are recommended.
 
No need to add Kill Coil as XT 1 CONTAINS-Synergistic corrosion inhibitors to protect metals commonly found in such systems that contain mild & stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass and cast iron and plated products.
Contains scale and biological inhibitors to help prevent fouling – thus promoting long operational life and high thermal efficiency.

mmmm i take it this was sorted out? my GPU block is NEW but the old style, what do i need to watch out for?

dont use silver coil. I believe its safe to use EK ekoolant or anything similar like XSPC EC6. I personally think Mayhems X1 is the best. I watched some tests/reviews and it performed the best of these 3..
