Delete outdated Windows updates by using a new option in the Disk Cleanup wizard in Windows 7 SP1

I had the same issue with validation, but opened up windows update and it was there in optional updates :)

Thanks. I was worried I was doing something wrong, possibly due to moderate beer intake !

I must have installed it previously and not known about it.

With so much competition from Apple, you would think that Microsoft would be making their OS and OS support more "user friendly". Quite often it's a challenge, even for those of us with a fair bit of Windows experience.

OSX has never been, nor ever will be, competition to Windows. They are practically in different markets. OOS will eat both alive :p

Isn't this just the same as doing the following?

open command prompt as admin, then type:

dism /online /cleanup-image /spsuperseded

This is what always do after a fresh install and last time it removed 1.5GB. I also use "1-Click Cleaner" which is part of Windows 7 Manager and that removes even more for a clutter free OS :)

dont think so. previously you never used to be able to remove the old update files as it had different file version stored in each folder. if i remember rightly.

Note that this works under Windows 8.1 too. I just used it to remove 256meg of old driver files and gigabytes worth of old system files which are moved to WindowsOld (or OldWindows) during the Windows 8.1 upgrade from 8. You need to click system files and the window appears to close but in the next window leave it at C and click ok and this time it will show old operating system files/ and drivers which can be cleaned.
