Of course it shouldn't scratch discs! :p

All the early cases of 360's scratching discs were when people were moving the unit around when it was switched on - such as moving it from standing vertically to horizontal, not wise to do in anything with a tray loading drive!

If it is scratching your discs on it's own accord, call MS or get a replacement from where you bought it.

I'm convinced that each time I take a DVD out of the 360 it will have a big scratch in it. But there are none whatsoever, not even superficial surface scratches and that's with me taking the disc out each time I switch the console off. Shouldn't have anything to worry about as long as you stay clear of the console whilst it is running with a game in.

I'd take it back and get it replaced, mine started doing the same a few months after I got it. The shop(ASDA), had heard of the problem and swapped it on the spot, they also replaced the Game it had scratched.

I never moved it an inch and had it horizontal, the new one is sat in the exact same spot and, touch wood, is ok.

i was too impatient when i collected my 360. i had a 10m rj45 cable stretched out right through my house so thati could go on live, as i simply couldnt wait till i was able to get a wireless adapter. anyways, the 360 was in vertical position and the phone rang. jumped out of my chair and ran out of the room to get the phone before answerphone cut in.

*crash, thud*

oh, carp. :( horizontal xbox, video lead has been ripped out the back, red lights. panic stricken i take out the disc and have a look, there is a 5mm thick scratch all the way around the middle of the data part of the disc. DOH!

game still works fine though, maybe i will have a problem as i get onto other levels or something, we'll see.

EDIT: but the main thing causing scratches on the discs is when they are moved from vert to horizontal and vica versa while turned on. it doesnt make any difference what orientation you have it in.

Ive not noticed any scratching or anything but Ive only had it a day. My mate scratched his disk when he moved the console and he had only just bought it, £50 gone in an instant  .
