I find this a bit hard to credit as well (no offense), though I don't for a second doubt the psychological impact a well-placed shout may have during a bout. But for a noice to physically stun me (let alone do actual bodily damage) it would need to be at volumes higher than what you'd get from big, box-like floorstanding speakers of the kind you get in loud clubs.
Not to mention how difficult it would be to stop such a sound wave from diffusing over a distance of more than a metre or so.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to be convinced of this, but I'd need some kind of video testimony at the very least or a written testimony by a reputable independent observer.

What was the name of the program? I've been told about this one before but I keep missing it. :)

mind, body and kickarse moves

i've seen the episode that everyones rattling on about, you get to see a demonstration of him ringing bells with it, which is kinda cool.

My missus.. shes a small bird.. maybe I could use this Kihab shout and just stun her for a few hours. There are times that could come in really handy. Where do I sign up!!! ;)

Exactly otherwise if you went to a concert you would drop dead. Soundwaves from someone shouting don't do anything to the body. Common sense should be applied in these situations.

then common sense would apply here and you would know that soundwaves travel well through water, of which we are mostly composed of, hence it is plausible that hitting the right frequency could momentarily disrupt a person. at a concert, the sound isnt directed onto one person, and would also be failing to hit the right frequency.

It's called Ki-Hap, in Korean it means "Power Shout" and yeah it works, i've seen a master who can ring bells with it.

It works on the principal that humans consist of a lot of water and the sound waves given out by tuning your Kihap to a certain frequency and emitted at a certain volume will disturb this water inside us and cause your body to freak out.

I practice Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial art and have done for about 13 years now and I only use my Kihap as a first attack, basically shouting in a way that shocks your attacker, enough to make their subconcious mind tell their body to freeze and plant both feet on the floor (much like if somebody scares you and makes you jump), then you have to be quick and follow up with a physical technique.

There's a lot of scepticism about Martial Arts and the "mystical" things that go on, but truthfully most of it is common sense.

I'll write more later, but i've gotta go out now :p

You have landed yourself into it now Mr Ki-Hap, I want a recording, and I have 400w to use it with. :D

I want a Ki-Hap recording too!

im guessing a recording of kiai/ki-hap would be useless, as even the best sound systems wouldnt be able to re-produce the effect properly, i.e. position of target from shouter, correct volume etc

I just want to hear the Ki-Hap... I'm not gonna walk around with a ghetto blaster trying to make people freeze in their tracks. I'll just "Derren Brown" them if I want to do that.

:)

I'll try to record one later then when nobody is in the house lol - my mum is a second dan, so she knows what it's about, but im sure she'd think I was weird just Kihapping at my PC.

People can call BS if they like, i'm not here to prove or disprove anything, all I know is that when somebody isn't expecting me to Kihap right at them and I do (Kind of a party trick amongst mates) they always tense up and freeze for a split second. Don't get me wrong i'm not saying that's because i'm disrupting their water content or anything, it's just because it scares the bejesus outta them.

Yes and its far far beyond the frequency of the human voice.

So basically the chinese/korean/japanese have given the word "fright" a mystical name because by the sounds of it kihap just sounds like giving someone a fright.

So many times i have given people frights where they have jumped and as far as i can see this is what kihap is meant to be.

Hardly useful in a fight, i think i'd be too embarrassed to start shouting at someone before i fought them and if someone shouted at me i think i'd laugh. I suppose my laugh would put me off the fight at hand and they would be able to kick my arse? :p

i can do that aswell ,its called shouting, shouting at someone when they dont expect it will make anyone freeze or jump, i got my info from the hong kong phooey book of kung foo so i know its real ;) ,methinks some ppl watch too many movies.

Yes but water in a human and very thin glass are completley different. ;)

i never said they weren't. i said that the principle was the same. shattering glass with your voice needs the correct frequency and distance, same as the kiai/ki-hap and a human body as the target.

People get slightly scared when I randomly shout at them too.

OMFG! I R THEH KUNG FU MAST0R!!!!!!

lol - what a load of crap - people will believe anything these days.

hundreds of years of science and understanding - what a waste of time that was........ :(

Yer, as I said, it's 2.4Ghz, there's no way a person could hit that, unless they're a ****ing microwave or something :p

what is 2.4ghz?

sorry but the one set frequency will not work on all glasses, as they are all unique in molecular structure and the harmonics of each will differ. i dont know how much, because the shape and material type is the same, but it will differ.
