Depends on your area, whether you are getting TPFT or full comp quotes and who you are getting quotes from. Try and find out what difference the pass plus course makes as that could save him a fair bit of wonga. Don't get quotes from mainstream insurers as they will give you high quotes as they don't want your brother on the books.

I got my insurance through Premium Choice, www.4youngdrivers.co.uk always seem to find a good deal for me. Make sure you insure Third Party Fire & Theft as fully Comp will be a joke and do some quotes with Pass Plus to see how much difference that makes.

bell.co.uk comes the cheapest for me im 18..

Bell are really poor for me, I guess it comes down to the area you are in.

The ridiculously high quotes are the company's way of saying "I'm sorry, we don't really want your business... however we will gladly accept the money if you're silly enough to pay it"

Something a miss there. Even if you lived in the Ghetto, FlexiBell would still cover you for half the price of any other company...

i cant get a quote under £1800, cheapest quote ive got is on a 205gti... which is very strange. Im 19 with 1 year as a named driver. Though I live in Northern Ireland which seems to meen i have to pay double....

£5645 at the Post Office for a 1998 1.6 306 :)
of course i went elsewhere, fully comp at directline for £1350 (£2000 but i had discounts such as online/pass plus)

So what companys do you suggest to try? I cant understand how its so much for a 1l polo?

For an older person with several years NCB the risky part of the equation is the car.

For a younger person with no experience and no NCB then it is the person who is risky. So insurance will be expensive no matter what car you go with. Should do better than £4500 though.

i used direct line when i first passed *edit* was 1400 fully comp on a 1.4 ibiza with no pass plus

make sure you have parents on as named drivers (if their licences are clean) as it will cut it down loads.

with direct line you can also do a weird thing with "main driver" which seems to reduce the quote again but im not quite sure how that works of the top of my head. might only be if your bro doesnt own the car.
