To be fair I havent watched the program yet, but I actually beleive that a lot of the crime problems that this country faces is dude to the silly sentences that are given out by our law courts. Punishment should definately be a lot stronger/harsher!!

If our solution to violent crime (bottlings, glassings) is to remove a given weapon (swapping glass for plastic) then we are tackling the symptom and not the cause. Other weapons will easily be found.

I saw abit of it, the only way is to look people up for a long time caught with knifes, plus I have never seen a glassing in my years of drinking they are very random and plastic cups are rubbish to drink out of.

Just have a license to drink. Swipe license at bar. Although it would make buying rounds hard. Not tht I would support such a move

TBH I don't see a big problem. How many times have you seen people get glassed.

is crime rising you need to think about access to reporting crime is wider ie now everyone has a mobile phone can report crime faster etc... has the type of crime changed? maybe not. there is more social interaction now than there was 20 years ago.

I'm all for plastic glasses, I once witnessed a woman glass another woman in a pub over some geezer they both fancied. She quite deliberately walked across the room to do it & then later when I read the court report in the local paper she claimed she threw a punch and forgot she was holding a glass. This is the standard excuse evidently and is usually believed in court. So taking away the glass would work as you can hardly claim you didn't mean it if you've had to go looking for another weapon.

Haven't watched it, but plastic cups are horrible, even the thick ones.

Yep. ertain places in Plymouth (Such as the SU on a friday and saturday night) use them and they are always terrible, probably because they are made to a cost, so are usually raggedy and really thin. Horrible things.

Glass is also a much better material, it's 100% recyclable and inert, which is why coke from a glass bottle tastes different to coke from a plasic bottle, plastic chemicals infuse through the plastic coke.

nope. they just need to come up with a decent design or use a different material.

they will never find a polymer that feels like glass - i don't know why they can't make the glasses out of safety glass, then they will just smash into small pieces (probably way too expensive).

Anything is possible. Materials science is always evolving.

you won't make an organic polymer with the surface characteristics of a silicon dioxide amorphous polymer (glass) - you would never be able to recreate the kind of surface energy that a substance with all those electron rich silicon and oxygen atoms has - to do that you would be making glass - its unique.

How about shatter proof glass drinks?

You know like windscreens.
