At the moment i'm reading through the Dragons of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey which my wife reccomended me.

Really enjoying them and would reccomend to anyone who likes long series which go very indepth into culture and history of the world.

I enjoyed 'The Lies of Locke Lamora' by Scott Lynch, not read the second book yet.

Joe Abercorombie is good, lots of very dark humour.

Also I'll add my voice to the people recommending 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series of novels by George R Martin.

Was looking for a new series myself as had already been through most of the above.

Just reading through the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. I liked what he has done with the last two Wheel of Time books so decied to try some of his other stuff.

Really enjoying it, just finished the first one (Fallen Empire) and would definetly recommend it.

Gorr series by John Norman.

Written in the early 70s, read them in the 80s myself and just found a few copies in a 2nd hand book shop so thought i'd give them another go.

Read the whole lot in publication when i was younger roughly 25 books up to 29 books now i think ?

Meant to be quite hard to get hold of now, has anyone else read these ?

Recently read those myself. Really loved his system of magic, or rather, allomancy. The pushing and pulling on metals is just awesome. Would make a brilliant book to movie

Older books seem harder to find now-a-days was trying to find the warlord of zendow ( not sure if thats correct was in the early 90's i read them 2 books) by richard la plante i think.

Thought the same thing myself, really like the originality of the Allomancy. Was thinking about a game myself though. Kinda like the Crysis suit but with the different metals.

Tried to read 'The Blade Itself' recently by Joe Abercrobie and really struggled. Just can't seem to get into it. Is the series worth perservering with?

Just finished reading this Trilogy and was blown away by how good it was.

Some of the best characters imo since George RR Martin's Fire & Ice series. Well worth persevering with. Looking forward to reading more by Abercrombie and one the best writers to come along since David Gemmell.

I know they're sci-fi, but I'm surprised Iain M Banks Culture novels haven't had a mention. Not all are great (avoid Feersum Endjinn IMO), but Consider Phlebus and Matter are stunning books.

Nice shout, I'm always on the look out for good Fantasy novels, was crying in my pillow when Gemmell passed away and it meant no more Druss or Waylander :(

Just finished Martins novels and read all of Feists, so reading a lot of Historical fantasy atm.. After Martin I'm liking the idea of more in depth characters in a book.
