Well to be honest everyone I've talked to is of the opinion that Liverpool is "bit of a dump."

Mate, most (northern) British cities are dumps. Manchester is just as bad as Liverpool imo, Leeds isn't exactly pleasant either. Not been to any of the others really so won't pass comment.

Have you not been to any open days to have a look around the University and City? You could probably pay flying visits to Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds in one weekend.

Nottingham rox !!!!!!!!

Uni ------ Housing student area of town ------ town. Great layout.

Mancs is great too and the women are easier up there, but I prefer the higher quality Notts lasses :D

Southamptons a bit rough

No it's not

Southampton Medicine is absolutely full of slammin hotties. Thats all I know.

Indeed. I'm doing a lot of work with the School of Health sciences. It's always nice on the eye.

Southampton is very student focused because of the large student population compared to the size of the city. I like it :)

Why not Plymouth (although you do get shipped out to Exeter and Truro for a couple of years too...)? Really nice city with plenty of nightlife (unless you come from a very big city), it almost feels like a town, and everything you need is down one strip (most uni accomodation>Uni>shops>hoe>seafront). You have the benefit of Dartmoor, beautiful coast and Cornwall (if you like surfing etc...) all on your doorstep. :p

Soton isnt a bad place at all! (mate went to solent and even it being the old poly there are still awesome people there)

Anway come to belfast! Its an awesome place, well if you have a really english accent nationalist or unionist girls think your a BEAST! or something equaly as awesome (remember political view is not a reason not to smash their pasty!)

I went to a houseparty there about a year ago, and the ratio was no joke 5:1. Absolutely fannytastic.

Personally, out of those I would be looking at Bristol or Southampton, but thats just because whenever I've been ooop north i've found it particularly skanky! Leeds is horrible, Liverpool isn't much better with Manchester being the best imo.

Stay daawwwnn saaaf and eat prawn sandwiches with rah's all day.

Manchester is good. It's the second biggest student city in the country and one of the world's busiest indoor arenas (2nd or 3rd). I'ld put it as the top option if you can get the grades to get in, i think you'll need straight As for medecine.

Officially AAB, but tbh, everyone I know that does medicine here (4 people), got at least 4A's, one even has another degree.

Manchester :) Great student city.

Everything from standard skanky student bars through to pseudo-skanky (read trendy) bars where beer is a fiver a pint ;)

Great University too :) I've done an MSc here and am currently 2 thirds of the way through a PhD, albeit in faculty of engineering, but I really think its a good institution.

Having said that, I also know somebody who went to Southampton as an undergrad and really enjoyed themselves too :)

Being a student is great even in terrible parts of the country, so i wouldnt worry too much.

My biased vote is for Manchester though.

Well to be honest, from everything I've read, experienced and heard, Peninsula is not exactly the best med school in the country. Most prospective students use it as a backup choice just incase they don't get in anywhere else. Also, its relatively new. I'd rather go to a more established medical school.

From what i've heard from the medics it isn't the top school by any mean yeah, it's just Plymouth is such a nice place to study.:p

I currently attend the University of Bristol.

I cannot put enough emphasis on how awesome this city is. As far as I am concerned, it is as good as your can get. It captures the bustling nature of a lively city without subjecting one to the impersonal nature of a larger metropolis. You can feel like it is your city, yet still find new cool places to go every day,

The city has different 'zones' almost like a theme park - you have the nice area (Clifton), the grimey area (stokes croft), the student area (redland) etc...

Everywhere is unique but manages to catch the Bristol vibe.

I will put my hand on my heart and gladly swear that you will never regret going to Bristol. It is, for lack of more succinct words, absolutely awesome. Never had there been so much win in one place. The angels will weep if you do not go here.

Can I put across how much you need to come here even more?

Nice post, I was in the reverse situation, I've lived in Bristol almost all my life, but went to Uni in some other city. While it was nice, I really missed the whole Bristol vibe, I don't think I really knew how good it was until I actually lived somewhere else for 3 years.

N.b. - The views expressed by my family and friends may not necessarily reflect the views or policies of the OP. Don't hate me.

European Capital of Culture resulted in massive investment in Liverpool. It's practically got a whole new city centre, which is where students spend 99% of their time. The student living area, Smithdown is hardly a dump. It's exactly the same as all the other cities. For a night out, you can't beat Liverpool. It's all together in one massive area, unlike Manchester where you need a taxi to get from club to club.

The reputation Liverpool has is undeserved.
