Ok, so three films is the interesting thing about this...

On the one hand, fantastic, there's no excuse from not sticking to the book, and following it practically to the letter, rather than missing out some of the stuff (thinking ROTK).

On the other hand, I hate the precedent this is setting for Hollywood.

You used to get great classics.

Now a days, 90% of films have a sequel designed to get more and more money, when ultimately there's little real storyline any more, and the films aren't really, that great. Then HP7 came out with it's big two part story line. Which arguably it needed at 700 pages. But Twilight Breaking Dawn certainly didn't need two parts, and the Hobbit certainly doesn't need three parts. The precedent this will set for Hollywood will be three films is ok, and frankly, it's not.

That said, it looks like this should be ok, and it has been long enough since I read the Hobbit that the storyline will be relatively new to me.

They're using a lot more material than was just in The Hobbit http://screenrant.com/hobbit-3-movie-trilogy/

Don't look at the camera Martin you're not in the office now

James McAvoy would have made a better Bilbo or even Pegg

I would have prefered an Unknown though

I mean look....

The opening of the book describes bilbo as liking a lot of food a drink

They have already got it wrong...

'The Hobbit' is about Bilbo Baggins, a portly and stout little guy who likes his fire, food and home comforts.

Mind Bilbo doesn't eat all the cakes!" they called. "He is too fat to get through key-holes yet!" ~ the Dwarves

Saw the trailer last night whilst at Skyfall. Was excited till I saw who the was playing Billbo. What is Jackson problem with picking whiny babies as his lead role. I will go out on a limb and say he will ruin this film.

Bilbo is a whiner... through pretty much the whole book. He's essentially tricked into the whole thing and never wanted to go in the first place.

I agree though, he's not plump enough to be Bilbo. He needed to be at least Sam's build from LotR.

Jack Black? Kevin Smith? Wayne Knight?

There's a lot of portly actors that would be woeful for the part.

Freeman is also a much better choice than McAvoy.

Freeman is a poor actor...McAvoy is a quality actor

Look at all of Freemans stuff, its all the same....even sherlock was the office Tim trying to be serious

Freeman is mediocre at best

It doesn't stop him fitting into the role much better than McAvoy. He wouldn't be right for it at all.

Hasn't this been specifically filmed in 3d though? I seem to recall the PJ has used new techniques etc so it isn't been enhanced post production (or as much) ala other '3d' films.

Oh and McAvoy, really? Martin Freeman doesn't have the build to play a decent Bilbo but the whippet thin James McAvoy does? Strange. Everything I've seen from the trailers etc looks as if Freeman is doing quite a good job. Lastly McAvoy a quaility actor? Wanted called and would like a word

Saw another trailer before Skyfall and I can't wait until this is released, and will be my 1st 3D film experiance. Bring it on :D.

All they had to do was shove a pillow up his shirt and - et voila - a porky Hobbit.

I should make movies, seriously....
