I think Freeman fits the role quite well. I can't really think of an actor that I would choose instead, unless they found some unknown which would be preferable I suppose. It's certainly not a bad choice having Freeman for the role though in my opinion.

Hasn't this been specifically filmed in 3d though? I seem to recall the PJ has used new techniques etc so it isn't been enhanced post production (or as much) ala other '3d' films.

Oh and McAvoy, really? Martin Freeman doesn't have the build to play a decent Bilbo but the whippet thin James McAvoy does? Strange. Everything I've seen from the trailers etc looks as if Freeman is doing quite a good job. Lastly McAvoy a quaility actor? Wanted called and would like a word

Saw another trailer before Skyfall and I can't wait until this is released, and will be my 1st 3D film experiance. Bring it on :D.

There is some interesting stuff in this official blog, about the 3D and camera tech used.

I am not keen on Freeman as Bilbo, as someone else said, he seems the same in everything he does; what he did in The Office seems to be his limit... shame, but I can't think who I would like to see in this role instead... maybe Pegg.

Does anyone know if all Imax theatres in the UK will be showing the film at 48FPS? I will be booking tickets to go to the Sheffield Imax but can't see any info on their site about it (emailed them).

Cheers

So is this going to go the way of the Star Wars franchise?
Three great films to begin with, then come the prequels which bomb and then perhaps the Silmarillion??

I must say, casting Stephen Fry in anything other than a role of comedy just doesn't work for me.

How about we wait and see before throwing around ridiculous statements?

Nahhhh that would be too difficult for some of our 'film' critics here:p

Im hoping that this is as good as it looks in the trailers but then anything to do with LOTR/Hobbit i love so im sure ill still love this regardless.

What i dont get is...if this is a prequel, why in the LOTR trilogy seem to be.. noobs..? They didnt seem very battle competant despite already having gone through a triology of fighting etc...

Also, they never chatted back about it, 'oh man u remember the time we fought that dragon? EPIC. This ring thing will be a steal.'

its like the LOTR was in isolation of the hobbit not a direct continuation?

LOL!! I did think it looked a little different to what I was expecting as well!

I has to be remembered that the book is for children, and I think the film needs to be watched with this expectation. LOTR started off as a children's book too, but quickly became much darker and adult, and the first trilogy reflects this... this is going to be far less serious.

You clearly haven't read the book. Gandalf is really the only character who continues over.

Lol@Tolkien noobs. Also, The Fellowship of the Ring had plenty of Hobbit silliness, singing and dancing and pipe weed, dwarfs are just as boisterous. And a sad lol@the Silmarillion ever being made into a film - tres impossible (as cool a creation myth as it is).
