I signed the petition and left a comment which I will repeat here as it sums up my position,

Evolution should be taught as the current scientific consensus, creationism should be reserved to RE and explained that it is a theological position, not a scientific one. Schools should not be promoting a theological position as Scientific theory.

The petition currently has 1574 signatories, they are looking for 5000.

What a ridiculous thing to have happen... Creationism shouldn't be given equal time with anything even remotely scientific. It's a delusion of those who are impervious to facts and evidence, and should be treated with the intellectual contempt it deserves.

Signed, especially after many a spirit-killing assembly centered around religion and often making no attempts to hide the fact that they're actively trying to convert you.
 
While I agree that it should not be presented as science I don't see why it can't be taught at school either, but not under the banner of religious education, infact I don't see why schools have religious education specifically (if its something people what to study specifically as further education thats another thing) I think RE should be replaced in schools with something a bit broader philosophy wise with religion as part of it.

I won't sign this tho as I consider it as much a close minded attack on religion as religion itself is close minded.

I can tell you haven't been to a school in a looooong time :p

Religious Studies is often joint with General Studies and PSHE in a lot of schools now. Not all of them, mind you.
 
There's no point in this petition - you need to campaign against faith schools. They are the real issue. It goes beyond creationism to matters of equality, freedom of expression and thought, and proper teaching of all religions and non-religious views.

Its true I haven't :P (left in 96) but I do know my old secondry doesn't teach it like that but still as RE.
