Reads title, instantly knows its about the US, Not the least bit surprised when i waltzed in to find it was true.

To be honest i dont care, i am bored of such a pointless discussion with such pointless excuses for a "civil" society.

People will do anything to justify their hatred. Religion is just another one, maybe the doctrine makes it worse but who knows. I once overheard a self confessed bigot once blame his religion for his racism. Yes you heard it right, he said that he doesn't like foreigners because of his religion. And later one he said that he can't speak to Catholics because it is against his religion.
Gays still can't get married here, something that needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

What do you mean by the "in thing", how can sexuality be a trend? Unless people are telling porkies.

"Michele Bachmann" was all I needed to read to know the whole story.

Terrible.

The last national survey stat I saw posted on one of the American news sites stated that 65% of Americans believed in God or something close to that. The majority of them are die hards as well. This was in 2011. There's not going to be any change any time soon especially given the size of most of their States!

I think it's much larger than that, 80% I think?
Also remember that the statistics hide the conviction that people have. In the UK the difference in opinions between non-theists and theists is pretty small. In America the difference is massive.
A lot of people here don't actively attend church but say they are Christian, who are probably Christian by blood.

80% is a rather high number but I wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to that than 65!

On a more serious note than my last post (fed up with American examples of idiocy on a UK forum....if people want to discuss US nonsense would it not be better to post it on a US forum?)

The general consensus of polls and studies in the US suggests that over 90% consider themselves religious or belonging to a religion of some kind...around 18% of those are not affiliated to any particular church ( a little like cultural Christians in the UK) but (and this will upset the atheists of the forum) only around 1% of Americans claim to be Atheist, and around 2% Agnostic.

Of that 90% or so the latest figures I have seen relate to around 78% claiming to be Christian and 82% of those stating they attend Church of one form or another regularly...

The United States, for all its stated Secularism and separation of Church and State is probably one of the most religious countries in the world.

read the whole article, its a shame like, i am not a fan of gays and such but each to their own and everybody can do what they want. just a shame that people are taking their own lives...
