Delidding 4770K

yes that's the best method and paste to use

remember to protect the tiny transistors next to the die by covering them with some non conductive paste like mx4

its to safeguard against and liquid pro running or touching them and shorting

Ah that sucks, got this off the AS website Not Electrically Conductive:
Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity.
(While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.

That's a no go then :(

Does it need to be cover for heat reasons or is it just down to protecting it from the Liquid pro?

just to let you know, you do not need cover the transistors with paste, i left them as they are. it doesnt effect temps at all so its not really a major issue if u dont have any mx4.

Ah cheers Vonex, could i ask you a few questions bud.

Basically did it help with temps when you did it? how much?

Did you use the vice method to remove the IHS?

yeah it helped with temps i seen around 25c drop with much higher vcore

for example at 4.5ghz 1.28vcore i was hitting 95 - 100c(custom watercooling)

after delid im at 4.7ghz 1.38vcore max temp in IBT on 1 core is 80c the rest sit around 70-75c. gaming at 50c MAX.

i used small vice, block of wood and hammer as seen in videos on youtube.. you will be surprised how hard you have to hit it, just give it about 4-5 good hits and it should pop off

becarefull when applying liquid ultra/pro try and be as neat as possible and only put on a thin layer on the core so it does not run when it heats up and a thin layer on the underside of the IHS.

Mx4 on the resistors is just for safety,to guarantee no shorts from conductive liquid pro

It does nothing for temps just protects

Cheer Kyle and almighty.

Unfortunately i don't have access to tape or MX4, looks like it's going to be nail varnish.

I don't suppose anyone can tell me the width of the IHS? only have a small vice and not sure on how wide it'll go.

Cheers
Dave

Will fit any vice apart from a tiny hobby vice easily and FYI the IHS on the 4770k is 33mm square approx. (assume its same for 4790k).

what ever you do and i recommend this for every one that uses liquid pro
get a paper towel and put the liquid onto that then from there cotton buds or qtips and dab a bit then put onto the cpu die
i found this stuff is so easy to squeeze out of the tube with its needle end lucky i did it cause it comes out fast i was amazed at how fast it flys out the end lol if i had done it without doing that i probably would have a dead cpu ...
