Delidding i7 2600K

Haha ok guys, you have made your point. Looks like ill just have to keep using it. Great CPU btw.... At 4k mixed with a 1080ti it keeps up with the newer CPUs. Well at that res the GPU is faster than the CPU but you know what i mean.

It doesn't keep up with newer CPUs, actually, but it's still passable. Don't try to delid, the lid is soldered, you will completely destroy it.

It doesn't keep up but it still smashes away at games considering it's a 7 year old chip, which is amazing really. It's still a viable option for gaming for sure.

In all honesty, if I'd bought 2600K instead of 2500K, I might still be using it... But I didn't, so I bought a 6-core Ryzen and a cheap board last year because I do not learn lessons xD Though Cities Skylines runs sooooo much better....

Does Cities actually run smooth for you? How many population, with a 4820K and a 7700HQ both are like 11fps at 80,000 population.

I bought a 2nd hand i7 2600k last year to squeeze a bit more out of my Sandybridge pc, does all I ask of it, I'm really happy (for now!).

For gaming the 2600k is still good. I went from one to a 6600k and the performance gain was small, none at all in some games.

I also made £120 back on it when I sold it, so over 6 years it only cost me £100. The socket 1155 motherboard went for more than I bought it for since the good ones are pretty rare now :D

A 2600K is still good only in benchmarks and there ability to stay relevant is down to the fact that the memory used is often a lot faster then what most Sandy Bridge owners are using which is typically around 1300Mhz/1600Mhz rated modules. I know DDR4 prices are ridiculous at the moment but is 2nd hand DDR3 any better, if you can get 2000+Mhz DDR modules cheap enough it may be worth upgrading to give your system a bit more life.

I upgraded from a 2600k to a 4770k years ago and my 2600k system was faster :( ,Mainly due to my 2600k overclocked far better (5ghz vs 4.3ghz)

Tbh id call it passable , what GPU was it paired with as im inclined to think you were GPU bound . still rate a sandy but in the modern era , it gets transed ... in the piledriver and vishera era it just made it look amazing in standing longevity wars but with zen and coffeelake ... not so much
