Delivery companies missing delivery dates

DPD I now check and it says on automated response its due "tomorrow" Is there any form of compensation for companies not delivering parcel on time when they say they will deliver them?
Not directly, as you are not the contract holder with DPD.

Weather that falls outside of normal ranges for a given market is always going to have an impact on all kinds of different services.

If you can't understand that then I'm not sure what to say.
Not necessarily, it depends how much the providers of that service are prepared to design the system for resilience.

It's not like we're talking about actual extremes of temperature here, while it may have been unusually hot for the UK, are you suggesting that delivery companies in countries where the temperature regularly hits the high 30s just shut down over the summer?

Including a/c in their vans isn't exactly a huge cost, but someone in accounts has obviously made the financial decision that the risk of disruption due to not having it is outweighed by the savings. While that may be true 99% of the time, its still a risk that they should have to deal with in the odd occasion where the gamble doesn't pay off.

If told my employer I wasnt working yesterday because it was too hot and I didn't want to pay for a fan then I can guarantee you I wouldn't be getting paid

i sincerely hope they do not! at least not in NI. had them prop a package in the rain on my doorstep, right beneath the big sign that said 'please deliver all parcels to number X'

weirdly the best courier company around here is myhermes or yodel. parcelforce too, if it actually makes it on to the van that is.
Well at least tell the customers! Something on the lines of "services have been suspended for a day due to the hot weather" then I could have got on with my day. Instead, nothing

To rub salt in, UPS have attemtped delivery. No phone call, buzz at the flat or anything. Just an update on the UPS tracking "Delivery attempted" What, so they knocked at the big door outside where over 100 people live within the grounds. Maybe they just went home and thought "I know, we'll just say we attempted delivery and go to the pub instead"

I really do hope Benzos puts all these 'big' delivery companies out of business. I would pay a premium for things to be delivered when they say they are.

And what do you think will happen once all these big delivery companies are out of business and Amazon is the only choice of courier?

No, because delivery companies in countries where temperatures regularly hit the high 30s are equipped to operate in those conditions.

This is why we also do not have an infrastructure that can cope with extended periods of snow and ice, it's why we don't have air conditioning in every building, it's why we don't have mandatory winter tyres, it's why we don't build cities that are resistant to seismic episodes.... because it just isn't normal or common to have those conditions in the UK.

You build business and systems to operate under broadly normal conditions for that market, and if you took into account every potential abnormality or freak occurrence, you'd go out of business in fairly short order.

And yet DPD were once viewed as the dogs danglies when it came to couriers.
yea and now they are like
Not my video but it's what they do at mine, apart from they won't get out of the van and use the intercom.

Your expected to go wait at the kerb for 30minutes when they are close to your address or something... the GPS isn't exactly real time though so you really need to be outside for 30minutes waiting.

Almost everywhere seems to use DPD now so they must be the cheapest of the cheap
