Dell 13z thread

The Dell Outlet UK store has the 13z down as the Inspiron 1370 I think, though googling the 1318 seems to bring up the same laptop! lol

Indeed its confusing me. Getting the laptop fixed on contents insurance though phew! That 13.3" HD screen would have cost me a bomb and i've only had it a week :o

just bought one of these with the G105M graphics for £380. I have a couple of questions though.

Can you overclock the U7300 in this laptop?

Is it possible to get a matte screen for this laptop to replace the glossy one?

Time for a small thread revival!

I’m considering upgrading some parts on my folk 13z as it’s beginning to slow down a little bit. I’d like some advice on upgrading the standard 320GB HD to a small SSD and perhaps adding an additional 1GB DDR RAM the standard 3GB.

Which small SSD would be the best to go with for this laptop? No bigger than 120GB as they’ve barely filled the stock hard disk. Is it worth adding the extra 1GB RAM?

I would say no, it’s not worth upgrading to 4GB RAM on it as I very much doubt they are maxing the 3GB anyway. I never did!

The biggest difference would be the SSD though. Get one within your budget. New ones these days are equally as reliable as each other and boot times would be improved by orders of magnitude.

Thanks mrk :) I thought the RAM would be a waste.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the SSD front? Looking around it seems either the Crucial M4 and OCZ Vertex 3 are the drives of choice. I know that 64GB would probably do the trick but can't help think that 120GB would be a safer bet.....hmm decisions decisions:p

Well my friend and I have a corsair force 3 120GB with many thousands of hours of run time without issues so price vs performance they're quite ideal and highly reliable these days.

Finally pulled the trigger on an order for a Crucial M4 128GB. Would I be better to clone the current install using the kit included or start from fresh? The current install is still pretty untouched as they don't really install programs etc it's just used for web and email.
