Dell 2408 on the way

A bright pixel would be a pixel/subpixel stuck permanently on, such that you would notice it on a dark background. It wouldn't cover a dead pixel/subpixel though, which being black would show up on a bright background nearly as badly. We'll also have to wait and see if that warranty is just in the US.

As for the screen itself, the 2407 was always a quality screen and this should be at least a little better due to higher colour gamut and the extra inputs. Only issue is with it being another HC model, will it have the same ghosting as the 2407-HC. I would say probably not, but I'd want to know for sure before ordering.

I wanted that Dell 2407 so badly... and was about to click on the order button of the hc about 3-4 months ago and then someone kindly posted ghosting/nightmare issues on 2407 hc.....

Sods law really

Hopefully next month some redemption can take place ;)

i hope this doesn't end up having the same issues as the HC model did. Looks very promising and i hope they can get these out soon so the price can come down a little so i can afford one :p

With the 2407 on TWO for just £387 odd I'm hoping this won't be more than say £450 odd, I'd be tempted to just grab a 2407 if it wasn't for this ghosting that I've heard about, as I do play games now and again.

The 2408 would be perfect though as It would really future proof you with the multitude of connections and of importance to me is that I can at least use component for Wii :)

I'm personally hoping the This Weeks Offer on the 2407 is an indicator that the 2408 is very near and they want to get rid of the last 2407's before no one wants it any more.

Any staff care to declare if they are under any Dell NDA's at the moment...;)

Is there any guesses to when this is out? May just wait it out for this monitor...

Hmmm, I'm a bit curious about that stain underneath the '3' and '4'. Don't worry, we all do it, even those of us too ashamed to admit it.

Erm... lol!!! :D

General rumours/thoughts are suggesting last week of Feb and early March.

I predict mid-late March

These really do look like screens to last a life time

What makes them better than the 2407?
More inputs, ghosting will hopefully be fixed. That's versus the 2407WFP-HC. If you mean versus the old non-HC 2407WFP (which didn't have the ghosting problem), the 2408WFP has higher colour gamut coverage too.

Bit of a shame Dell haven't gone with an LED backlight.

Cost not a shame, I dont see people forking out $2000+ for a DELL 24" for a few % increase in gamut. LED isnt needed at this point in time with current WG-CCFL's hitting 125% gamut already.
Quite a few laptops around now with LED backlit screens so it can't be that much more expensive. It's not just about colour gamut, LED backlights are far more even (so no bright/dark spots), and they use less power. Uneven backlights is probably the most complained about weakness of current LCDs.

LEDs are used in laptop for power reasons alone and are easy to implement on cheap small screens. A 24" LCD is a completly different story, the samsung XL24 retails at $2499, current LED implementations help with evening backlight/spots but it does not eliminate the problem as the density of LED's isnt high enough.

Fair enough, but I can't see why it would be any harder to LED backlight a bigger screen, you just need more of them. I'm sure an LED backlit screen could be made for a lot cheaper than the XL24 which is intended for graphics professional and comes with it's own hardware calibrator, hood, 123% ntsc colour gamut coverage and 10 bit colour. So it's not a good example of the cost of an LED backlight. Also I'm sure the backlight evenness is much improved even if it's not perfect.

Anyway, I was just expressing general dissapointment that new tech like LED backlighting takes so long to reach the consumer sector. I'm sure it will happen at some point and the price will eventually be more reasonable. Also plenty of people pay a premium for PVA, IPS and MVA panels - so price isn't everything.

Ocuk do have that samsung 20 incher backlight LED for like 600 quid which aint so bad considering its all new in the market.

I do agree however but its the same ole hype and reaction.... yes we will release LED panels which will be cheaper and be 10x better then TFTs next year... 5 years later its out @ 600 quid and 20inches.

Been hearing the samething with 200gig Disc ;)

Personaly I reckon its hard competition now adays everyones tight and no ones got any money, the main screens that will be attached to consumer pcs and laptops will be TN panels.... everywhere I dont reckon backlight led screens will ever reach good pricing but who knows.

In order to make a product cheaply, you need to mass produce it. This requires changing your factories or building new ones. This is amazingly expensive and takes time. If a company could produce a superior technology and sell it at low prices, they would.
