Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

got it now

collected the s2716dg its as they said an a03 version. No dead pixels or the hdcp thing its listed in NVidia so I assume its working. Has anyone calibrated one of these if so what settings did you use. There is a you tube video where a guy suggested gamma adjustments . Atm it seems to be a good buy .

I just got this monitor today and was hoping someone might be able to help me out.

I loaded up a couple of games (MGSV and Metro: Last Light) to give the monitor a try and once I got to any 3D rendered part of the game (i.e. not during into videos) there is a buzzing from what I can only assume is the graphics card, not the monitor.

Is this just coil whine? I have an EVGA 1080 FTW and was previously using an Asus PG279Q monitor before it went back for RMA. I can't say I noticed the issue on my previous setup. The noise isn't massively loud but enough to be annoying once you've noticed it.

Got the settings right in Nvidia Control Panel?

IE. G-SYNC on and Vsync on (caps the frame rate at 144FPS). If Vsync off, you could be hitting VERY high FPS (depending on game) and pretty much any Graphics card (or PSU) will buzz then.

Only a suggestion :)

Looking to check my sanity with you guys. I'm not sure if there's something wrong with my refurb A01 or I've been spoilt by my previous ultrasharp IPS U2412M which I've had at home and at work for years. I don't believe I've ever used a TN panel before. There are few things I'm not happy with.

I feel like I can see the scan lines (particularly horizontally) on the screen on most light colours. This is even when I run the built in screentest, particularly on the grey and the white coloured card. This is not the thing people report where they see horizontal lines during explosions in games, it's constant.

Most smaller text doesn't appear sharp, particularly the Windows 10 system tray and the text within the Nvidia control panel. I have the res set correctly to 2560x1400 and I've tried DPI scaled to 100% and 125%. I've also tried the DPI fix I've seen googling round the web which uses the Win 8 method instead. If I read for example this forum on the monitor my eyes quickly get fatigued.

Finally, either the screen is noisy in some colours or the backlight is slightly flickering, I can't really tell.

I've tried plugging my U2412M via the same DP cable and everything seems fine on that monitor. I've also used HDMI out my gfx card and it seems the same. Am I going mental or is this a getting used to a 1400P TN thing?

I didn't have all the other stuff but the horizontal lines/bands is something I had. It was like you could see the backlight array through the screen or something, like loads of faint horizontal bands running across the whole screen but more prominent in the upper third and only really visible against light colours. I had it on an A03 and then on an A02 as well before I got a refund from Overclockers (after a load of hassle).

It seems as if whether you go for an ips monitor or a tn one if you want a high refresh rate 1440p monitor it's a total lottery, with the job of quality control being passed on to the customer.

After doing a lot of reading, I am still far from deciding what is best:

Can someone sell me on this Dell? It seems like a lot of money for a TN panel, and not without it's issues. I really want a 1440p 144hz panel, but the quality control seems awful across TN and IPS panels.

What is the colour uniformity like on this? I only use IPS monitors at work (not for colour sensitive work) and the only thing I notice is the viewing angles.

Will I look at this monitor and go "Wow, this is amazing" or "Wow, this is bad". I use TN panels for gaming at home, and that's all I've ever used for gaming.

I've read up about the gamma issues, and the colour adjustments needed. When I apply an ICC profile, it only applies to one monitor yes? I will be using this as my primary monitor, but I will have a smaller 1080p monitor as a secondary, and possibly my current monitor as a third.

It is a great monitor for gaming and general use if you get a good one. Angles will be an issue though if you are more sensitive than normal to it.

I don't think angles will be a massive problem. I currently have a 26 inch TN panel so I imagine it will be similar. It's the difference between this and IPS and getting a good monitor that worries me more.

I have one of these, screen quality is great, colours are very pastel like, but still look great, took ages to get it looking how I wanted but overall Im pleased with it. The only annoying issue is to see it how you have set it up, you need to be looking at it from directly in front, else colours can look very different. as sson as you move left, right, up or down it appears to change darkness....if you can put up with that you will be fine:)

As others have commented re- viewing angle/s. It's basically typical for a TN panel.

As to colours. After some adjustment, it's not too bad. Better than my previous Iiyama (TN panel) and that was rated as being pretty decent at the time when I bought it.

Just be aware that some folks (me included) are having issues with "screen flicker" on the latest Nvidia drivers. Nvidia seems to know about this but doesn't seem to have gotten to the bottom of it yet. Temporary solution is to set the default re-fresh rate in the Nvidia control panel from 144Hz, to 120Hz. Only effects low low power apps and the desktop. Games appear fine. This is not just limited to this monitor though, can effect any Gsync 144Hz (or above) monitor. There is a huge thread (rage!) on the Nvidia forum about this. Some folks "claim" to have curred it by various means (new DP cable, fiddling with settings) but I've tried them all and it makes no difference for me. Just thought you might appreciate a "heads up".

Don't wait too long if interested in this panel, as the price is almost going up daily! Currently £50 more than when I bought it

PS. I stand corrected, it's now £60 more than when I bought it.

My Dell rep tells me their prices are going up 10-15% at the end of the month, so just ordered mine. Thought it might be useful for anyone else who has been considering one.
