Sup fellow Gamers.

Having a hard time choosing between these two. I know the Dell is a TN and the VS is IPS. I'm a big fan of vibrant colours, just seeing the clarity of rain falling in a nice green grassy background or the clarity of the night sky for example. I'm a sucker for vibrant, clean visuals. I also want the benefits of G-Sync and a faster refresh rate so I've decided to narrow it down to these two although I would consider recommendations at a similar price or less on the same level.

How do these stack up? I've heard the Dell is excellent for a TN panel and has a more reliable panel in terms of dead pixels and QC?

The Dell is the better gaming monitor as it has faster pixel response times. But, the Viewsonic has much better colour accuracy, at the expense of response times causing some additional motion blur.

The Dell TN monitors do not suffer from the panel lottery anything like the 1440 IPS G-Sync monitors. If you do get the Viewsonic, buy it from somewhere with a decent returns policy.

As you say that you're a big fan of vibrant colours, I would go for the Viewsonic monitor (or whichever equivalent Asus/Acer/AOC is cheaper).

This whole Panel lottery is the ratio to getting a bad one to good that bad?

Sadly the monitor manufacturers seem to think it acceptable at the moment to just throw anything out - backlight bleed especially is all over the place. The Dell has the best chance of getting a panel free of things like dead pixels and excessive bleed but its still not a guarantee.

I've been through a fair number of these monitors and come back to the S2716DG but for me response time is key and I have another IPS alongside for when I care about colour accuracy, etc. the S2716DG can be tweaked to look nice and colourful superficially but if you really care then there is some sacrifice to accuracy (though it still looks natural) and doesn't have the deep saturation of a proper IPS in some colours like reds.

Yeah that. It's not that you easily risk getting a completely un-usable monitor, but when you're spending £600 on a monitor you're going to see the imperfections more and complain about them (and rightly so). Manufacturers must have worked out that getting loads of returns is cheaper than proper QC. A shame really.

Wow that is sounding like a bit of a deal breaker. Is the TN panel on the Dell good enough for visuals? people make out TN is awful in comments.

The A04 revision is reasonably good but all revisions need "calibrating" - there are settings in the thread on here that will get a good picture, even if not the most accurate colours possible (as that would require calibrating for the individual monitor). Shouldn't be places still selling A00-01 stock but you might be disappointed with those - some people find they are undersaturated regardless.

Going to take the risk with ViewSonic, the panels look lovely. I've been lucky with 99 percent of my purchases so a little positive thinking!

You will have IPS bleed it's just a matter of how much, I have bleed it's terrible in a picture but its fine in reality when you're looking at it, I also bought mines used to cut down on the price from the rain forest.

Keep going back and fourth I'm leading towards the Dell now LOL watching the speed of that monitor seems like it will be really engaging to use, it's tough. The only thing I'm holding on to VS is the display.

Either way yes it will be from the Rain Forrest.

For that price, why not get the 24in Dell + a seperate 1440p IPS monitor. Best of both worlds.

The rainforest does have the very best returns policies if you did go for the Viewsonic. Who knows, you might win the lottery.

I have a fast BenQ monitor that I used for CSGO a lot, I can't tell the difference between that and the ViewSonic in terms of speed.

This is one of the problems with monitors - some people will be happy with a slightly slower response and never notice the difference while others will find even a tiny smudge of motion persistence unacceptable and someone never really knows until they've tried a monitor how well it works for them.

I've had two Viewsonic's from the rain forest and returned them both due to a really off putting dead pixel (weirdly in exactly the same place on each monitor). It's not going to stop me trying for a third one though as it's a lovely screen.

I also had two AOC AGON 27" IPS monitors which I returned due to clusters of dead pixels and awful backlight bleed. The Viewsonic fared much better in that department.

I went to visit a friend today who actually owns both(Well the IPS is AOC AGON but same panel) Are people seriously exaggerating about TN panels? Comparing the two I felt the Dell had a slightly less punchy image but only in direct comparison. Obviously the viewing angles are worse on the TN. I felt both were great screens. I can't say I notice a speed difference but this was with the Witcher 3 I did notice weather effects and towns felt more smooth.. After seeing the Dell I can't see why people complaint about them. Ordered one after today.

My current Monitor is a AOC VA 32" and I feel the Dell is nicer, my current monitor is grainy and washed out.
