Dell U2713 HM

So I finally decided to buy a 27" screen after umming raring, was very tempted by the Samsung 850D but that seems to have sold out/been discontinued so I went for this one instead... Hopefully I shall be receiving it on Tuesday... I can finally start editing 1080p video...:p

I am probably going to get one of these for Christmas and I'm thinking that if I have any backlight issues and I can just return it under DSA (distance selling act) to overclockers anyway?

You can DSR it to OCUK but if you've decided it's the spec/price you want then I'd just do a Dell swap out as it's easy to do and they usually drop a new one off and take the old one or give you a few days with both.

As has been posted there are loads sold and not many posts with issues as people with no problems rarely post, I did as I'd seen a few negative posts on this thread.

But if I switch with dell and it's rubbish still and dell refuse to replace it because it comes under their specification I can't then send it back to ocuk. I would have thought it's better to take the slower route through OCUK and guarantee you get something you want.

But yeah, I reckon I'll probably go for it.

Wow, i need say no more.

Coming from a 20", absolutely stunning.

Top marks for OCUK too, here in less than 24 hours, right in the 1 hour time slot I got texted.

Does anyone know what the latest manufacture dates and revision numbers are? The newest I'd seen previously was Sept A00.

Also for people replacing their copies because of BLB/cross-hatching, do you have to get it replaced by the retailer you bought from because it's not covered under the warranty or can you contact Dell? It seems like most places make you pay shipping to swap them out whereas Dell does it next day for free AFAIK.

the U2713HM is still in revision A00. I have been through 3 samples of this screen now in the recent weeks. All of them were brand new, unopened and un-used (as confirmed by factory menu).

All of them have exhibited a feint buzzing noise in certain circumstances, normally only when viewing a full screen window with a lot of text. After speaking with Dell about it they confirmed it had been identified as a product "feature" and said they also had similar issues with some other models recently. Perhaps some funny electronics. They are aware of it and i have been told that it may well be fixed by the time a rev A01 comes out. I would like to make the point that this is NOT a major issue. i have never seen this buzzing in normal day to day use, you really have to go looking for it and know how to find it.

The so-called cross hatching issue is also very very slight, and is more related to the AG coating from what i can tell. Again all 3 samples have been the same, but again you'd have to go looking for it really to notice it. I suspect you have to be at a very specific distance from the screen for it to be a problem in normal use.

Backlight uniformity has been very good on all 3 samples with no major problems at all. the sample i still have with me is excellent, no backlight bleed at all. From what i've seen this screen seems to be very good in terms of backlight leakage.

The best bet if you have any problems with your screen is to contact Dell. They have been very good in my experience at arranging a swap out. they send you a new model out next day, then collect the old unit the following day. They do state they cant guarantee a new sample and it might be refurbished, but the 3 i've looked at have all been brand new as i suspect it's because the screen is so new and they dont have a refurb stock yet :) no cost or postage, they drop one off and collect the next day. excellent support

I've now left it that they will contact me once a rev A01 is available as well so i can test that and establish if the buzzing has been fixed.

I appreciate the help, as always.

I wonder when a new revision might appear. *** no competitor price hinting ** so I'm tempted to get one now and stop putting it off as you say most of the issues shouldn't appear during normal use.

no, they shouldn't unless you go looking for them :) and no guarantees a new revision will even address them / fix them really.

ok ive got my new baby! she is beautiful no dead pixels, pretty mush 0 black light bleed. looks like ive got a good one! well happy.
any tips on calibrating this puppy

I was a little nervous about buying one of these for christmas but I trust your opinion baddass so you have inspired me to get one.

When abouts do you reckon rev1 would come out? I don't really plan on waiting on it because I've been around pc's long enough to know that if you wait for the next thing you'll always be waiting, but it would be nice to know.

No ETA on it at all and no guarantee it will address the "issues" which IMO are not major and won't affect most people in normal uses

I figured as much. I do however really want to know where I would legally stand under the following example:

If I buy this monitor and it's not up to standard and I return it to dell but it still isn't good enough, can I then turn round to OCUK and return that monitor under DSA even though it's not the same monitor?

No, you can't return a model with a different serial number to a retailer because they didn't sell you that model.
