Dell U2913WM

For a wider field of view in most games (more of the game world visible at once), lower GPU horsepower requirements, correct display of the majority of movies (which are designed for cinema screens with similar aspect ratios to this) and perhaps just liking to have that bit of extra width. I've got an article on my website entitled 'The 21:9 (2560 x 1080) Experience' that goes through these advantages.
 
Look at my picture above - it's u2913wm on the left, u2412 on the right. Find out if your game supports the resolution and there you go. Or I can try to get that game and post some pics for you later.
 
I received my u2913wm a few days ago. So far, the light bleed is pretty bad. I sent the image to Dell and they sent me a refurbished monitor to hopefully fix the issue. The light bleed was just bad, perhaps a tad worse (also the monitor didn't function correctly, how did this get past QA?).

Do you guys have light bleed issues? If you don't, know what revision your monitor is? When Dell calls tomorrow I would like to know what to tell them to get this fixed without just getting endless refurbs that are just as bad or worse.

Are 2 GPU's needed to push high settings on this monitor?

i'm looking to pick one up in a few weeks but not sure if a second 7950 will be needed aswell.

As I mentioned in the other thread :P you will need atleast one 7950 or equivalent if you don't want to sacrifice visual quality to get smooth framerates if you want to run it at 75Hz and get >60fps as much as possible then a 2nd one wouldn't go amiss but isn't essential.

I know, but since Toxic sent me here, i though i'd ask and get more opinions. in the other thread, some people were saying one card is fine for 1440p and others were saying two were needed for this monitor. All got a bit confusing! :)

I'm fine with 60hz. so long as i can hold 50+ for most of the time i can't really tell the difference with anything higher.

Does seem to be a good screen. It would probably be a good choice for racing games with the wider field of view :)
 
How much GPU grunt you need depends entirely on what you play, my GTX670 can handle WoW, Borderlands 2 and FarCry 3 on this screen with everything maxed out so that's good enough for me, but I'm unsure how well Crysis 3 would fare. In all honesty I don't really notice a difference between 4xAA and 8xAA at this res I just use 8x because I can :P

It's also worth noting that not all games are compatible with 21:9 aspect, some like Starcraft 2 and Poker Night 2 will simply not do 2560x1080 and make you run in 1920x1080 with black boarders, some like Darksiders 2 and Doom III will do the resolution but not the aspect leading to strange side effects. But for games that support it then its great.
 
I recognised a few posts here by people who had been looking to upgrade from Dell 2407s.

I'm still sat here with the old girl, but fancy an upgrade. I'm nudged towards the 2410/12s although the 2913 fascinates me.

I have read the reviews and comments above/elsewhere, but would be grateful for answers to:

Is it a big improvement over the 2407?

Do you miss the extra legroom vertically?

Dell is on today only for £400.00. Only 5 units, wonder how long this deal will last :)

I had a 2408 before I had a 2711. Still had both screens whilst I was using this 2913. Everyone's different, I don't miss the vertical space but that's because I tend to be doing two things at once, hence having two windows side by side, and this 2913 lends itself very well to that.

You really need to try the screen out, don't judge it by its resolution. It fills my field of view without needing to move my head when gaming.
 
I have this hooked up to my Mac mini, but have added a Xbox through HDMI only to remember that the monitor has no speakers.

I have some AE 2.1 speakers connected to the Mac mini for the audio, but how will/should I get the sound from the Xbox?

any ideas, will an audio splitter of some sort work? Cheers

If you have speakers connected to the mac mini the audio that is carried from the xbox over the hdmi cable should come through ok .... not well up on macs but I guess the principle is the same :)
 
Ok well do your research and if that is the case I will have a good dig through my cable box I know I have more than a few of those cables :)
 
I think I need to do this:

Dell audio out via 3.5mm - RCA cable L&R to AE 2.1 Speakers Input

Then just connect the Mac mini (Displayport) and Xbox (HDMI) and should all be fine.....well I'll find out tomorrow when I do it lol
