Dell Vostro 1500

Not heard anything about a 8700. Where did you hear this?

With regards to the CPU, I can only think of 2 reasons:

1. Dell can't get hold of any 2.4GHz CPU's
2. They run far too warm in the Vostro. The XPS M1710 can be built with a 2.33GHz CPU, but its primarily a gaming laptop and has sufficient cooling.

And i know the Vostro 1700 has the 2.4Ghz...guess it runs too hot for the 1500, hmm.

anyone noticed that the price has gone up for the Vostro 1500? they may be advertising free delivery but i specced one up and it came to roughly £650, whereas the on i orderd a week or so ago with the same spec only came to £599 and thats WITH the £60 delivery!

Just about to order a Vostro 1500.

Is it worth going for the larger battery for a tenner?

How much longer will it last than the standard battery that doesn't stick out th back of the laptop?

Just did a quick run of CPU-Z and it shows my memory to be running at a frequency of 332mhz, it this normal? The frequency of the RAM is supposed to be 667mhz i think, so i have no idea what is going on here. Is there a problem with the RAM or is it working as intended?

9 cell - I can get around 6 hours in power saver mode and 4 hours at High Performance. I wasn't sure about getting the 9 cell battery coz its sticks out the back, but it doesnt bother me now i have it, im just greatful for the extra power.

Another thought on the headphone hum.... Was anyone aware that there is a built in microphone on this laptop? I just disabled it - no idea how to get it back, but the hum barely audible now :D

God almighty! Look at the time

You've got two microphones - one either side of the webcam in the lid. If you right-click on the volume icon in the system tray and choose Recording Devices you can enable or disable the microphone array. I'm guessing that's the device the webcam mics use?

Not sure, about this whole headphone hiss.

I remember having it some time ago, but a reinstall plus other bits and bobs being changed have somehow removed the hiss (not intentionally).
