My current 1500 has the same problem but it doesn't bother me as my laptop is connected to my stereo amp.

doesnt bother me that much because the only time ive got headphones plugged is is if im gaming so I hardly hear it then, but still not impressed wish there was a fix

was thinking about getting one next month, just a quick question if i get it with 1 year support can i ring up dell later in the year to get that extended if i need to?

Just had a phone call from Dell. My replacement Vostro 1500 will be arriving on Wednesday. Hopefully, there will be no:

1. Constant whine noise when the system is idle
2. Buzz/hum when the screen brightness setting is lowered from max

Hi, placed my order for a a 1500 but was with the 8400 card. Any one have any idea how this will run games? as i couldnt afford to splash out on the next model up!!

A question for those who have installed XP themselves- is there a way to load the SATA drivers at XP install (F6 method) without using a floppy drive? If not, where can I get a floppy suitable for a laptop, do I have to get a Dell one (£31!)? And if I do get a Dell floppy drive, which hooks up via USB, will the Windows XP install be aware of the floppy drive?

ok a bit of a dumb question, but how do i go about re-installing windows vista business? i tried rebooting with the dell cd but nothing happened...and yeah i configured it in the bios to boot from cd but still no joy. Any ideas?

F12 to tell it where to boot from in this instance (obviously say DVD/CDRW drive). If that doesn't work, the disc may be a bit funny.

Can you try something for me. Can you plug your laptop directly into a wall socket rather than an extension.
For me the level of hum changes depending on where the laptop is connected to the mains.
No extension - No hum!

Dell batteries have a bank of LEDs on the back of the physical battery casing. Hold the pic of the battery, the number of lit LEDs indicates your batts charge.

Mine was fairly full.
