Some update Nvidia drivers over at laptopvideo2go if you like to game.

v163.69 WHQL: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15049

v156.57 WHQL: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15060

The 156.57 are the latest for mobile GPU's and contain the thermal tweaks/protection specific to mobile GPUs, and also power saving on laptops.

Okay, i tried to create a folder in Windows and Program Files but it's saying i don't have permission? I'm new to Vista...

Does anyone know if it is possible to disable the touchpad when i have my usb mouse plugged in, it really annoys me when im trying to type something and i accidently rest my hand on the pad and it clicks somewhere else on the page.

Thanks

Sidewinder, sometimes mine vibrates my screen but if i just move the screen slightly it stops.

Thiras, on my other dell laptop you can disable the touchpad but you need to disable it via the software, maybe you could disable it in device manager ?

As long as you have the Synaptics Toupad Drivers install, you can do this via the software. When a mouse is plugged in, the touchpad is completely dead. Unplug the mouse, and comes back to life.

Thanks guys, got it sorted now :)

Just wondering if anyone has tried 3DMark06 on this laptop. I might give it a try in a bit.

Anyone tried the Vostro on MoH:A?

Tempted to order one as they can be had for under and around £600!

Worth the extra £ for the 2.0ghz?

Any idea on weight of this thing?

Vista treats the Program Files directory as a sacrosanct area. Unless you have local Admin rights, I don't think you'll be able to create a folder in Program Files.

Even if you are an admin, if you have UAC on it'll ask you every blinking second if you want you're sure you want to carry out your action/

Thats not bad at all :) I didn't go for the bigger battery due to the fact it sticks out abit, and I didn't even know there was a vista home option, I mustv'e missed that one, and I forgot to ask him on the phone when I ordered. I tried the 3 year warrenty but the price was abit too high then.

So how long does it take to arrive from the date of order, about a week I'm guessing?

From what I've seen in pics of the battery the sticking out is not too much and once you've got the screen open you can hardly notice the battery.

Vista Home Premium is not an option on the web Site, you only get it if you ask... it's a straight swap from Vista Business.

2 weeks I've been given althought the sales guy did say that they are delivering before the date the system gives at the moment. Somone will ring me a day before to confirm AM/PM delivery.

They suggested it on the phone to me. I rung up and said what I wanted (the T7300 Vostro 1500 with webcam, 9cell battery and bluetooth) with a three year support, but didn't want to pay what the website came to.

I said no to his first 4 offers, then he said he could do it if I switched to Home Premium. I pushed a bit harder so he knocked a further tenner off, and we had a deal.

I'm not too fussed about what OS it comes with, as I won't agree to the EULA and willa sk them for a refund of the OS cost. I might try the same with Works which they bundle with it too. Might get a few quid back for that.

Nice.... seems you got a good deal in the end :D

You honestly don't notice the battery at all when using it, so don't let that put you off getting the 9 cell.

Can someone tell me how to set the processor speed to the maximum 100% of the time? Thanks

Make sure the Power Plan is set to High Performance. To access it, click on the battery/power cord icon in the system tray.

Even with this method, SpeedStep will still throttle the CPU to a lower speed. If you want it at maximum clock speed all the time, you'll need to go into the BIOS and disable SpeedStep. Obviously not recommended if you're planning on using the battery, but if its going to be connected to the mains all the time then you should be ok.

Ok thanks ;)

Also one more question, would re applying some thermal paste to the processor invalidate my warranty ? Thanks

Probably yes.

But getting access to the CPU is a bit more tricky.

With my previous Dell laptop, you simply removed one of the covers underneath (similar to the RAM compartment) and gained direct access to the CPU and heatsink. With the Vostro, I think you have to completely remove the casing underneath.

By the way, is anyone else still suffering from the CPU whine issue?

Found this workaround from another forum.

If you have a Bluetooth module:
Device Manager> Bluetooth Radios> Dell TrueMobile> Power Management> uncheck the allow this computer to turn device off option.

If you don't have Bluetooth, then apparently the device still appears for some people.

Quick question do you get the full Vista OS Disc/DVD with your Vostro notebook from Dell? If not what do you normally get? ...and can you request a full proper disk of Vista?

I'm ditching my Latitude D620 in favour of a Vostro 1500. The components in the Latitude are really nice and being able to swap out the DVD-RW drive for a spare battery thus resulting in 9hrs battery life (high cap primary + spare battery in dvd slot) was awesome. Having said that, I'm sick and tired of the god awful trackpad in the laptop, it’s been replaced 2 times and it’s still rubbish!

On my work account I've got coming:

Core2Duo T7500
2GB DDR2 RAM
160GB 7200 RPM SATA HDD
Hi-Cap Battery
1680x1050 UltraShrap TFT
Bluetooth Module

I can’t wait!
