Congrats Boycie on taking number 1 spot from me.
Sadly there are 3 more behind outproducing me so won't be long before I'm down at 5th :(

Good news, the team is up to 10th overall and about to take 9th :)

Hamesy, I see you have joined in running DENIS :)

Unless you are just in the process of changing over you seem to still be running the original app that DENIS downloads. There is an optimised version that does the work 10 times faster !

You can read about it in this thread:
http://denis.usj.es/denisathome/forum_thread.php?id=53&sort_style=8&start=0

Download the optimised app (in a zip file) from here:
http://optos.sesef.pl/denis

Exit BOINC Manager and then copy the contents of the Zip file into the DENIS project folder, usual location is here:
c:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\denis.usj.es_denisathome\

but if you installed BOINC to another directory then you should know where !

Restart BOINC Manager and watch how fast they go now :D

Just found one pc full of tasks waiting to upload and no active tasks, seems my problems are back again, keep clicking update in the project window but all the tasks still sitting there saying "Ready to upload" Not sure how long it's been like that :( Might have to ditch the denis project.
If you are still having problems I would suggest running it alongside another project that limits the number of tasks it will download (eg CSG). If you set the job cache to 1 day (maybe more) you will never be able to download enough work from one project.

Could try using an app_config.xml to share the cores between both projects. The theory being it should take twice as long to do the work and so more chance of getting a successful response to an upload/download request to stop you running out completely.

There are other projects that limit the amount of work but off hand can't think of one :o
Let me know if you want other projects to choose from, if no-one else has suggestions I'll go and find out for you.

If you try doing this with a project that doesn't limit the tasks sent then this project will just fill the cache and stop or restrict how much work Denis does.

Well something worked.

Does it think it is a virus then ?
You don't have control over exclusions I take it ?

If you don't own the business then you should probably ask permission first.
Wouldn't want you to lose your job

I'm using Sesef's app but have scaled back for the moment.

I have tried Crunch3r's app on linux and it's obviously much faster than the stock code but is slower than running Sesef's on Windows. I did read a thread on the Denis site about a comparison and IIRC Sesef's is the one to use for Windows.

Will need to get all my boxes changed over to Windows in time for the challenge :D

@Boycie

I've noticed that your v3 Xeon runtimes are considerably more than mine and Colin's. I don't know if there are any other issues but I would definitely recommend running the AVX2 optisimed app if you haven't done so already. Goes for anyone else with an haswell or skylark CPU.

Download:
http://optos.sesef.pl/denis or https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1452459/denis/denis1.6.1_avx2.zip
There are quite a few not running the latest optimised app :(
Though guess if Colin has gone back to work he might not be able to update his.

Moved last machine over to Windows late last night so all are now running Denis. Have set vLHC to no new tasks but they take 24 hours to run and a couple of machines only run 1 of the 2 allowed at a time so they will take another day to stop. After that I'll be turning off DPAD for the duration.

Think I have it running now on my p.c.

will stick it on my 9590 in the morning.
Welcome aboard :)

If you are trying to run the latest Sesef app using AVX2 it won't work on your smaller machine as it only has AVX. You will need the SSE version instead.

Still sitting in the client task list on your pc?

Just looked at my tasks page on denis site; i have 1077 validation pending ! :(

I started a thread on denis forum here Andy: http://denis.usj.es/denisathome/forum_thread.php?id=78#594

I suspect the increase in validation pending is possibly due to all the tasks that are getting 'abandoned' as people set up their machines to run the optimised apps. It appears the un-run tasks just get deleted from the machine but the tasks on the server don't get told about that, they just sit there till their deadline expires. Does that sound likely ?

Thank you.

will it work on the 9590? am running Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz when i can
Don't think the 9590 will either as it only has AVX, but it does have SSE4.1.
I think the 2450M only has SSE3

Do you need me to find the links for those versions ?

Yes, possibly for the SSE3 one but would expect Crunch3r's SSE41 app to be faster for a processor with SSE4.1

sorry to be a pain...

what will I need for 9590 and 2450M?

am sure I have sorted my 5930k out by using avx2

Yes, 5930k is flying :)

For the other two, use the SSE41 version I listed in post 139 above. Right-click on the link to copy it and then paste into a new window to download the zip file.

I think I've resurrected the 64P cruncher, but want to see some WUs validate before I count any chickens .....

This has to run linux as I'm not rich enough for a Windows server version that recognises 4 CPUs. But currently each WU is going to take nearly 4 hours to complete. If it remains like that it's not going to be kept running, just too inefficient compared to the optimised Windows client.

Now I'm a real numpty when it comes to Linux, and have to be spoon fed explicit instructions.

Looking at the optimisation thread over on Denis there are a number of versions for Linux files available: http://denis.usj.es/denisathome/forum_thread.php?id=53&postid=550#550
Which do I need for the machine spec: http://denis.usj.es/denisathome/show_host_detail.php?hostid=47767 ?

I hope that install will be as simple as http://denis.usj.es/denisathome/forum_thread.php?id=53&postid=498#498 of things will go FUBAR very very quickly.
I think you want the SSE41 version, I found this...

Yay. :D

I'll fire it up properly tonight ready for the challenge thingy. That's assuming there are WUs left to be done. Looking at Denis' server status the waiting WU numbers have dropped dramatically in 24 hours.

A load more tasks just got added to the queue :D

Am I looking good? I've been travelling almost everyday the last week so i've not been able to tend the flock. I'm still only getting ~70% CPU utilisation in task manager but there are definitely 40 threads per machine running

B
Looking very good :)

You've gone from 208k credit on Friday to 309k yesterday and to 409k today, some of today's is a result of bunkering so your number of validation pending tasks will have dropped.

What has happened to the other machines, have you had to let users use those

Just a heads up for those still running DENIS, they haven't been feeding the server so you are probably running out of tasks if you haven't already. Guess they are just doing some housekeeping following all the data they collected during the challenge.

No information yet on when new tasks will be added.
