Has anyone been to the dentist since Covid started? Its been about a year now since I've been. Dreading it when I eventually go as they will no doubt say "your gums are inflamed bla bla bla" see the hygienist for cleaning session for £55(+ the £55 check up fee).

I emailed them this morning to see if they will have any appointments from January but last time i contacted them they said are only doing appointments for emergency's.

I doubt you could even get an emergency appointment before January now.

I’ve been waiting 2 months for a wisdom tooth removal. And the only date I could get was Xmas eve.

Had to ‘go private’ but still using my normal NHS dentist, Had a chipped filling since the 1st lockdown...eventually the full filling came out, then bits of the tooth getting damaged...needed root treatment and a filling in another tooth
Only just got the crown fitted 2 weeks ago...I’m now skint :p but great to be able to eat properly again!

I have, and have my next appointment already booked. Both just routine checkups. Basically business as usual, but with covidic measures in place.
I am private, though.

Yes. I had an urgent appointment in July when I had some pain. Then went on a waiting list for the hygenist which I finally managed to get an appointment for last week (at £75 - ouch).

EDIT: This is a private dentist.

I'm not on the books with any dentist atm, suspect it will be some time before I'll even be able to sign up to any!

Asked a few (NHS) dentists this time last year and they all said no space and not taking new patients, one said to try after Christmas.... And of course then covid happened before I asked again!

Dentists are such a pain to get signed up to. Rather than just being able to get assigned one you have to ring round each practice near you to ask individually if they have space which they never seem to have, it's like... pulling teeth

Go to a private dentist and got an appointment just recently, albeit it was massively delayed. Got in for my regular check up and hygienist clean (usually go every 3 months, which is quite regular, but I've had issues with my teeth in the past and don't want to have issues again).

There are a lot of extra covid procedures though, temperature taking, hand gels everywhere, waiting rooms all closed so have to wait in your car until called. All very sensible. But their patient throughput has slowed to a crawl. If a filling took them 15 minutes before covid, it now takes them an hour as they have to clean the room thoroughly afterwards as there is potential for spray to exit from the patients mouth when drilling, etc. So a 15 minute appointment takes about an hour. Regular check ups etc are much quicker.

Nope, nearly a year since my last checkup and clean. Pretty gross really. I do a better job of cleaning my teeth these days, but I wouldn't mind a clean and check at this point. Its never cheap.

Yep, been for a check up. First time at a private dentist on a PAYG basis. Pretty much the same as normal except they only had one patient at a time in the surgery, I had to wear a mask, etc. I didn't have a hygienist visit but apparently they leave longer between appointments for those.

Yep in October - 4 visits to get replacement fillings (white ones instead of the old school metallic grey ones) No issues, other than my wallet being destroyed as they charged for PPE clothing for each tiem I visited.

How much was the charge for PPE compared to the cost of the treatment?

I've not been to a dentist since 2006  While that may shock some, in my over 3 decades I've never needed a filling, never needed a hygenist and generally never needed any form of dental work done. I can't actually think I've ever even had toothache or thought to myself 'hm, I might need a dentist for that.' My teeth, gums and mouth are generally in very good shape, I think!

Ironically I did make an effort in February and signed up/got an appointment for April, which obviously got cancelled! Awaiting another slot in the new year...

I avoided using my NHS dentist this year due to COVID and they've removed me apparently - it was only about a year since I last went previous to this COVID situation!
