Dentist

I've not been to a dentist since 2006  While that may shock some, in my over 3 decades I've never needed a filling, never needed a hygenist and generally never needed any form of dental work done. I can't actually think I've ever even had toothache or thought to myself 'hm, I might need a dentist for that.' My teeth, gums and mouth are generally in very good shape, I think!

Ironically I did make an effort in February and signed up/got an appointment for April, which obviously got cancelled! Awaiting another slot in the new year...
some people have few issues others have loads.

probably a lot has to do with peoples diets and if they really brush 2-3x a day properly.

I've known a few women in my time who are really lazy when it comes to brushing teeth.... they are the ones who need it most lol....a lot of people have big problems with their teeth during pregnancy

Couldn't agree more. My partner had generally good teeth untill recently. Then she got pregnant and had major wisdom tooth problems and 2 other teeth likely need work because of damage. It's just another stress women have to go through to have kids I guess!

Been twice now to my regular dentist, had to get everything done privately though as they are limited to the amount of NHS work they can do at the minute, but apparently they can do as much private work as they wish.

Thank god for employer dental insurance that’s all I will say :p

Bought one of those water flossers. Seems to have good reviews. If it saves hygienist visits it's made its money in one go

Not been in year

yes they are, quite powerful, will draw blood for a while until your gums improve

Got bought one for Christmas following the recommendation here. Even on the lowest power it’s impressive, my gums have never been so clean. Who would have thought a little jet of water could be so effective. Flossed after and the floss was still completely clean. My gums are tingling - in a good way!

Because I don't want an electric one :p I prefer a regular manual toothbrush.

Anything electric with a built-in battery is just something that needs to be replaced every year, typically, at a cost of between £50 and £100 quid a time. A regular toothbrush is like 20p :p
They're not that expensive and either come with a built in rechargeable or like our current ones, take AAs. I think we charge them every month or so. Hardly much effort. The heads are say a fiver for a pack of 4, which makes them about the same as a decent toothbrush (there's no way a toothbrush for 20p will be very good, unless it's on sale).

I haven't been since Covid kicked off, primarily due to that but also as i haven't been into the office near my dentist. Complete waste of the monthly insurance/cover i pay for.

Im a little surprised you can actually just turn up with no test requirements?

This is mainly due to what the dentists have to wear, and the air changes air exchange systems that were put in place, coupled with the continuous cleaning that goes on.

Which one did you get? At this rate I think my teeth will fall out before I get to see the dentist again.

I'd be interested in which one you got too. Been using the interdental brushes but it's tricky to get right to the back where it's needed the most.

Water Flosser for Teeth BESTOPE... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07VCFKBCQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

It’s surprisingly good, even on the lowest setting. Has taken a few days to get the hang of. I always struggled with interdental brushes due to varying and small gaps between some of my teeth. I wish I had discovered water flowers years ago - and that they had existed when I had braces!

I'd considered one but still have a healthy stock of my easy flossers so will run those down first. I can't use regular floss because my mouth is too narrow and my hands too big.
Why on earth does that flossers come with a nose cleaning tip??!

Meant to help people with hay fever apparently...can’t say I’ll be using that one. I just use the periodontal tip (great for cleaning below the gum, can’t imagine floss getting to most of that area - I floss daily and the water smelt of bad breath the first time I used this!) and the one for between teeth. I’m only on setting 2 of 5 currently, it’s powerful. I’ve had no blood so far, daily floss has really helped my gum health.

I use cold water rather than the suggested warm water, it’s a little more sensitive, but warm water is bound to have more bacteria in it that I don’t want to inject into the gum area.

Ive also upgraded to the OralB iO8 - curious to see how this performs vs my 7 or so year old cheapo OralB.

Do you find water sprays every where or do you learn to manage that? Just got a sonicare toothbrush so this could complete my home dental equipment.
I have an impacted wisdom tooth so this could be really useful.

Yep that's why I use it in the shower haha. I use mouthwash instead of water.

Had the Philips airfloss for a few years. It's great, when I remember to use it. Sonicare brush here too, couldn't be without it.

Also in need of a clean at the dentist, it's almost been a year.
