Deposit advice?

They have fixed the blind hence the quote for £120, it should be £55 tho.
That could just as easily being the blind fitter hiking up the prices for the estate agent. Lots of companies would likely do that as they know most agents will claim it back off the tenants.

Yeh they've fixed up the house. I rented this property about a year ago. We left it a year to get the deposit back because we had a huge gas bill which took 7 months to pay off. We went back after the summer (sept) to get out deposit back, this is irrelavant anyway. They have done the work so what im asking is basically about the blind situation. He tryed to con me basically!

Edit - And i want justice! :D

But ive spoken to the fitters and its £5 per blind.

They dont have a reciept for each blind, only a receipt for all the blinds that were installed in the property. £660 for all the blinds. But my blind which was broken was the smallest in the property, 1m x 1m.

That is not a receipt, receipts are itemised. Ask for a receipt from the company or you will not pay any of it and will go through the deposit protection scheme. Check the date, they may ask the company to make a new one to fob you off.

so its been a year? since you left they still have your deposit, then find out if they ever put in the the rental deposit scheme if not you'll get all your deposit back.

You can't prove you're getting a like for like quote, and even if you do you can't prove that they're lying about the quote they were given. If they've only got a charge for all the blinds in the property then I'd ask for some justification that your blind costs the amount stated given you've got a quote from the same company for £55 or whatever, take it from there. Don't bank on getting that money back though.

What he is saying is that like weddings, work done for estate agents is often at an inflated price to the norm because tehy know there won't be an argument about paying it (because they're not the ones footing the bill)

DONT TELL THEM ABOUT THR DEPOSIT SCHEME JUST DO IT. IF YOU TELL THEM THEY'LL QUICKLY PUT THE MONEY INTO SCHEME...

ok, shall i phone the dps and find out whether the estate agent put my money into the account?

When did you move in? if it was after April 6th 2007 you have to be in it. You should have got a letter from the DPS within about 2 weeks of moving it the property. If you did not get a letter then the chances are you are not in it, so phone up and check.

The scheme is dated and has to be paid in within x-days of the commencement of tenancy start. So makes no difference.

Yes but they can still put it in, even after the date, and as long as they have proof there is nothing you can do, all it requires if proof thats its in thats all not when it was put in.

Nope thats were your wrong, i know this because it happen to a mate. Its a grey area.

It is not and if your friend laid down and accepted lies then he's an idiot.

Agents/landlords must protect any deposit taken within 14 days from receipt of the deposit from the tenant(s); this is mandatory under the legislation. A deposit is deemed to have been received when the cheque is received by the agent/landlord, not when the funds have cleared.

I think there is some leniancy if it's realised during the tenancy, but I can't see this being the case after the tenancy has expired. Although not receiving a letter isn't to say that it didn't get put in, my last flat we had to push twice for them to send us the details, sure enough when we got them it had been put in at the start of the tenancy, paperwork just hadn't come out for some reason.
