Depressing Songs

How have you worked that out? Their music is emotive, but hardly depressive. a lot of their songs build up slowly to a nice atmospheric climax.
erm, because its my opinion

Smashing Pumpkins - Behold! The Night Mare (From their Adore album)
Smashing Pumpkins - Blank Page (From Adore again)

I think Joy Division would be a topper, but I don't know what you mean by new age experimental music?

Are you after somthing more astral to go with the ghost thing, Godspeed! You Black Emperor is worth looking at for that, however their tracks are pretty long so you will want to be doing a bit of chopping. :)

Sounded like you were stating a fact to me. :)

well, it sounds like you're stating a fact saying Magdalena is depressing - when it's about a guy who has found a woman who appears to be close to perfection, and how badly he wants to be with her.

Anything off Nick Drake's album 'Pink Moon'. It's very acoustic though, you might want something a little more electronic, perhaps a Nine Inch Nails song. Of course Radiohead or Smashing Pumpkins would be a fairly safe choice I would think.

James Blunt - No Bravery.

Infact I can't think of any James Blunt song that isn't head-in-microwave material.

The album "Five Leaves Left" by Nick Drake.

And also possibly the most depressing (and one of the best) songs of all ever: Radiohead - Street Spirit...

Think a dark tunnel, with no light at the end of it. That's Street Spirit.

More haunting than depressing, but that seems to be what you want going on the description...

Lisa Gerrard's Aria is fantastic.

Although the most haunting song I've ever heard is probably Gyroscope by Boards of Canada. Sampling a numbers station over their usual other-worldly instrumental, it's proper ghostly stuff. Not one to listen to late at night, on your own, in a dark room as I've just done :(.

The Johnny Cas h cover of Hurt is gut renchingly depressing, but brilliant.

Anything form Adore by the Smashing Pumpkins is generally downbeat, but that's becasue it is in memory of Billy's mum, it does have some beautifully crafted songs though.

Blank Page is brilliant, as are many of the songs from that album.

Konstantine by Something Corporate is a pretty depressing song. Incidentally, if you haven't heard it you should definitely give it a listen... especially if you don't like Something Corporate, it's entirely different to everything else they've released, not a guitar in sight.
