My closest friends and I have all been out of uni for approximately one year now and we all have jobs but recently everyone is depressed and thinks life is pointless. Is this a normal, get out of uni and realise life is a pants stage or are we feeding each others depression?

feeding each others depresion I would guess. When I left and got a job I thought life was fantastic and still do

We are all computer programmers. It's the boring repetitiveness of everyday life we are all down about. Well they are, I'm not. I've jsut been finished by my girl friend of 6 years, so i'm going to start living again. I only noticed what a bunch of depressing gits they were when i started to spend more time with them

Meh, wait til you need to start paying for mortgage, gas, electric, council tax, water rates, tax, food, home insurance, car tax, car insurance, petrol, pension.

Then come back and talk about depressing :(

Past 6 months i have bought the following:

Bed - £150
Xbox 360 - £200
LCD TV - £300
Nintendo DS Lite - £75
Laptop - £300

And im in the process of buying a Canon 400D at £400.

You cant beat this. Well you can but im happy!!

No, life is much better after uni... Having a couple of grand a month to blow on whatever I want and travelling around the world for free is great!

yeah it's all downhill after uni, you actually have to work and earn money and stuff. sucks real bad!

This is true actually. It's basically what I call the "mid 20s crisis". You have an amazing time at university and then you come back, your friends all go to different parts of the county, you have to get a job and it's like going from fifth gear to first. Especially if you have to move back home it's really annoying. You feel like you're being treated like a kid again.

It's that time when a lot of people start settling down, getting into "serious" relationships and getting engaged. Basically everything slows down. It's a real pain.

This man speaks the truth.

Life improved immensly after uni - have more money and my evenings and weekends are not interupted by coursework.

Also, I no-longer have to share a house with idiots and those with questionable personal hygine.

It's normal. You got to start having fun again. Friday drinking sessions straight after work. BBQs and other such activities on weekends. And 2+ weekend trips abroad. You'll soon start having fun again. But still not as fun as uni.

Life is what you make of it. A group of 5 friends (+ other randoms) and me, since sixth form, have the same passion of gaming, football and banter. We have always kept in touch through our own forum and MSN messenger. We email each other at work on a daily basis (sometimes 20-30 emails in total per day).

Throughout uni and to date, we have always met every few weeks for football/pub/gaming and 2/3 times a year, we discard our "wags", real life, rent, work issues, the daily grind basically and have a lads weekend indulging in football and gaming.

So although I sometimes think work life is boring, having family, girlfriend and friends keep me sane and I always look forward to the next meet. This Easter weekend, we met, which did wonders for re-energising. We even joked wondering if, come 45, we would still be meeting up. At the moment, we are looking forwards to the first engagement...everyone is dismissing it.

So go out and make changes.

P.s. I am currently in a positive mood but my outlook is liable to change at any time.

I lived at home at Uni, and spent all day playing online games, everyday, with some forum spamming. I knew Uni was a waste of time, unless the career specifically requires a degree, it's useless, unbeknown to many students.

Now, as we speak, i'm at work, forum spamming, then i'll go home to play online games. I go out and get drunk 10 times more than i was at Uni as i have seemingly infinite money.

I dunno which is better, i've hit a wall too. I'm stable in my job now and my girlfriend demands i stay with her, so that's getting serious.

But my solution has always been simple: Challenge & change. I usually don't stay at same workplace for over 6 months nor keep the same girlfriend for more than a few months, the friends i drink with usually change every several months too. Now i'm getting into a rut and too feel bored with everything. Don't let it happen, you can change anything.
