Depression after uni?

Although they could laugh at what you have or where you go they would be lesser men if they did.

You (and 99.9% of people) are better off than most people as you have a roof over your head, don't have to worry that the water you drink may kill you or where the next meal is coming from or if the local Militia will rape you.

Exactly, so from what i do own, im happy, it could be a hell of a lot worse.

Except in Bradford.

its not rape, its surprise sex

im kinda the opposite

Haven't actually finished uni yet but I am so freekin fed up of it now. Though i guess thats partly my own fault. failed my first year, the uni then removed the course i was doing so had to change to something else, had 2 years of that, then a year out on placement, and now finishin off the final year.

just had enough of the coursework etc and exams and pretty much education in general. i really want my own place now, and a proper job somewhere earnin more than pennies. only got a couple of months left to stick it out though!

It's the only place I've ever had a gun pointed at me, and I used to live in South London and regularly go to some of the less salubrious parts of Central America.

You had a gun pointed at you... so that makes Bradford bad.. Thats why its branded so bad, ive never seen a gun, never known anyone own a gun.

Where abouts did you have this incident?

I read an article that showed the geographical location of Ethnic Backgrounds, crime, etc.

Bradford is the worst where me, as an English White male, would be a minority in my own country and where crime is pretty bad in some parts. I'll try and find the figure.

Edit: Ahh here we go, from the 2001 census:

Bradford Moore Ward:

White 30.5 %
Mixed 1.7 %
Asian 64.4 %
Black 1.1 %
Other 2.4 %
--------------------------------------------------

Not making this into some racial thing for the PC people, but what's the crack with that?

Notice how there is a relationship forming here.

Seems that the amount you enjoy uni life, compared to the amount you enjoy work life are inversely proportional (to a point).

Perhaps if the people who hate working life and have crap jobs had pulled their finger out at uni and spent less time 'having fun' (playing games, getting drunk, sleeping, yadda yadda), they would be in a position to get a better job and enjoy working life more.

A valuable less for anyone at/ about to start uni here... Believe me, the more you put in at uni (and rise above the idiots there), the more you get out later on in life.

Its most likely right, you walk through Bradford and its like spot the White man.. Most whites live on the surrounding areas and usually populate the less bad estates, Asians are the most popular of the ethnic origin around here, especially in some certain areas where they just rule estates... Manningham, Tyresal, Little and Great Horton, Heaton.. All asian, where as places like Denholme, Keighley, Halifax, most of Allerton, Thornton, Clayton Wibsey are mostly all white..

But to me thats not a bad thing, i work with Asians and i get on with them well and have a right laugh with them.. I dont see why people see it as a bad thing, aslong as you know where to go and where not to and at what times then you are usually orite.

That's a bit harsh. I messed about at uni and was probably one of the idiots you refer to but i got a 2:1 in software engineering and i have an good job at company doing interesting work in the virtualisation space. I've been in industry 11 months and my salary has already gone up £3k because i bloody enjoy it and i'm good at what i do.

It's more the stuff outside of work that is dragging down the happiness factor.

I didn't enjoy undergraduate that much but then I did work rather than doss about - and also I had a placement year. Although I am technically still at 'UNI' (teacher training), I'm not really as I am only in University a handful of days out of the year, the rest I am in school flogging my guts out.

Real life is better, but there is some fond memories of being able to stay up until it was light and then going to bed etc I do miss.

At a road junction. We were waiting at the lights when a car pulled up on our right; the guy rolled down the passenger window, pointed a gun at us and then turned left in front of us when the lights changed.

You may not have seen a gun there or know anyone who has one, but that is my one and only experience of Bradford because at the point we turned around and drove back to Leeds. I have never had the need or desire to return since.

In my eyes that inccident does make Braford bad because it happend to me and I nearly soiled myself. My opinion can only be based on my personal experience.

Sixth form students need more guidance than the universally accepted "University = Better jobs"

It doesn't. How many people do Business Management degrees? Media studies? ,etc. What possible use to an employer are these? They'll find out when they leave.

Engineers, Tradesmen, these are the careers that the country is lacking. I work ofr an Engineering consultancy and i assure you in industries that are severely lacking manpower like this, you can literally name your price. Not some stupid ass Music Degree.

Idiots don't get 2:1's... I am on about the timewasters I had to work with that failed half their units and got third class degress and so on.

I think though you have to agree your (good) job gets you a lot more satisfaction than it would if you were earning £14K working on an AOL support desk, and as work is inevitably such a big part of our lives, that has to count for a lot in terms of your general outlook on working life.

I agree and most people that are there and shouldn't be are the very people who put little in, as they lack focus, or any end goal and are probably doing a degree because "it's the done thing" or "my dad told me to".

I definately think something should change in the way 16/17 year olds are guided into post- college- level development, as there is an awful lot of money and time being wasted on people getting degrees they are never going to use in Media Studies, and Music Technicolour or whatever.

I would agree with you there. One criticism of my uni was they gave no career advice or help at any point. During the third year we got a ten minute talk and the graduates news letter it's only because i knew it was coming and was proactive and early i got in early, i found a good job.

It's the social life and such i miss
