der8auer - AMD vs. Intel

Accepting freebies will always open you up to attempts at review manipulation. Reviewers really should be buying the products they are reviewing, it's the only way to be sure that they are not being influenced.

It's not practical for some of these reviewers to purchase massive amounts of kit to review. It would be a catch 22 for them because they need to get the hits needed to generate income to purchase kit and and they wont get hits if they review every piece of kit weeks or months late.

I'm just saying, as soon as you receive something from a company for free, then your reviews are going to be suspect. It's the same issue with gaming journalism, they won't upset the publishers for fear of losing access to their free review copies.

That's not say that the reviews need to be completely discounted, but you do have to be careful, particularly if the reviewers in question tend to cover products from one company more than another.

As you say it is unethical but it is capitalism at its finest. You just have to learn what review sites to trust and which ones are obvious shills. I stopped reading gaming journalism years ago and always tried before I bought. Steam has a good refund policy and if I like it I buy it, if not it gets deleted and I ask for a refund. I have even bought a game full price on Steam, liked it and refunded it so I could buy it £15 cheaper from a CD Key site.

For hardware there is always the Distance Selling Regulations if you purchase online. You will of course have to pay for the return postage. And before anyone says this is unethical, it is exactly what the DSR laws are there for.

In this day and age where a lot of us are sitting on the very edge of our seats either prepurchasing or ordering the second an item we want goes live information about said item is much desired. I doubt many goes to look up performance reviews after they bought the product unless its not performing as they had hoped for.

Its quite BS

So if you find and show problems with an amd or intel product they will no longer send products to you

This is nothing new, the gaming industry has been doing this sort of thing for years. Is it despicable? Absolutely. But on the flip side, these reviewers could just go out and buy the product. ;)

Insight into how much corporate politics reviewers like him and Gamers Nexus have to deal with.

The reason people say this is because he's always been completely silent on the real issues Intel have but has spent the last few weeks pulling AMD up for complete nothing burgers almost constantly, the guy ranted at Robert Hallock for explaining AMD boost system, just because he said "they can boost upto 4.7Ghz" come'on....that's just petty hyperbole. He behaves like Dg does on this forum. He can't find anything real to have a go at AMD for so he just makes ridiculous rants while completely ignoring Intel's real issues.

He does look like he's shilling right now.

This is why i tend to ignore reviewers like him, there is an inherent bias built into their reviews, few of them give a #### what the vendors think, JayZ2cents and Hardware Unboxed are two, others are much smaller, the ones that don't do talking heads and just run the benchmarks side by side live for you to make your own mind up, those are the best reviewers, all these people who make their money from the hardware they receive are just not trustworthy.

“stop giving Intel a hard time, blah blah blah indium solder bad”

Remember that one? ;)

Being a corporate shill goes with the territory. Only way for these guys to stay ‘relevant’.

clickbait videos. the bain of youtube. i understand why they are trying to make a living but as a consumer the best option is dont favour anyone. dont be pro amd or pro intel. just buy what you need. you will do far better and not be influenced by people who are pro whatever side.

Couldn’t agree more go to which ever is better in the stuff you pure performance or price to performance etc amd and intel don’t treat the loyal well neither bb suppliers gas electric companies etc always goo to get the best at the time :)

Intel rewards there loyal fan base with a 7700k 6700k etc lets be honest we’ve seen what they can do when pushed to it the 8700k and 9700:9900k but they rewarded there loyal fan base with such a small upgrades and no pushing the boundaries

And have us bulldozer enough said on that

Never been a better time to get a cpu either on team red or blue :) all have there strengths and weaknesses but which ever cpu you get it will be very good over all

Lol its really funny that people think reviewers are plotting and scheming to deceive them into buying a product they are not paid to sell, when they don't care at all and are just trying to be consistent as they can XD

But that's the thing mate, some of them ARE being paid to sell you a product. You can't be that naive surely?

no they aren't, if they gave bad advice and shilled every time and the product wasnt actually good, then would loose all their viewers. just the same as if a shop sells rubbish products, less people will go to it and eventually they will stop.

They arent selling the products, they are selling there content and reviews.........

They don't have to give bad advice mate, skewing reviews even slightly or coming across negatively throughout the review, is often enough to turn the average punter. Not everyone cross checks other reviews, or does their own due diligence.

And @humbug, the guy makes money by selling deliding tools and lapping CPUs. And Intel is the only client he has.
The moment the Germans questioned to him why all this negativity for AMD (look at his German videos german language comments), came out firefighting.
Similarly to AdoredTV. That joker even went to the point on now hiding all his content behind paywall, and is accusing AMD for all sins of this world, when caught that his sources were telling him lies.
