Derren Brown

Aww, you all ruined the end for me :p. I've got this show on my sky+ list, but I missed the first episode thanks to my boyfriend deleting it after he'd watched it, grr!

I don't think he actually uses hypnosis at all, I think that he acts as if he is because then people seem more prone to suggestion.

the mind control/suggestion stuff is quite frequently an act

hes basically a magician albeit a very very good one

he actually used to be a hypnotist though in his most recent book he is pretty critical of stage hypnotists

hes also fairly critical of NLP and pseudo science in general (even though a lot of people assume he is an NLP practitioner)

He wont allow psychologists into his performances.

Proof, please.

Oh wait...

The Gathering was a specially recorded as-live show at a secret location (hidden from the audience) with an invited audience of students from Roehampton University, celebrities, psychologists, psychics, taxi-drivers and magicians. It was filmed on 18 May 2005 and broadcast on 29 May.

As part of the show Brown recalled streets, page numbers and grid references from the Greater London A-Z map. Also pseudo-psychic "mind reading" and "remote viewing" activities were recreated.

During the show, Brown hypnotised the audience as a group and convinced them that for approximately half an hour after leaving the room, they would have no memory of the events. Furthermore, the word "forget" was intermittently flashed very briefly on the backdrop throughout the performance.

A variety of audience members were interviewed afterwards; some of them couldn't recollect anything (but were nevertheless very impressed); brief clips of these interviews were shown.

I love Derren Brown. But, after seeing the betting/horse racing show, I am sceptical to how many people he may have used for each setup and that they just bin the ones that don't work. Very clever :) Even so, I enjoy every one of his shows and would enjoy seeing his liveshow.

What about the show where he apparently hypnotised someone using an arcade machine and then took them to some place whilst they were unconsious, surely fake since that would be illegal without consent? And the way he just seemed to lose consiousness but not fall over or anything, he just stood there. Blatently fake.

the arcade one was difficult to watch. If I remember correctly the victims friends were completely shocked and the victim had to be pampered at the end of his 'nghtmare' to bring him back to reality.

Brown certainly pushes things. some of those earlier trick or treats are disturbing. The ventriloquists dummy episode for example, where the guy at the end is almost crying for help as he's as confused as a 'dummy'.

Personally I think Derren Brown is amazing. Just got tickets for his live show next month. Also just found out it will be filmed. I'll report back should I end up on stage.

he is very good live :]
tonights show was pretty damn funny, especially after he mentioned the sign above them :D

I thought the part where he got that woman to throw that dart was incredible, one of the more impressive "tricks" I've seen him do.

not only the car but the circle about the size of a 10p. The only thing i could think of is that it would be the most common card hit when the average person throws a dart?

yea but if you listened to the annoucer afterwards she said that "he was only joking, she is fine"

Seen him live twice and its much more impressive when youre sat a few feet away, his nervous twitches/ticks are really districting though and dont really come across in the TV show.

The shows current series has been very good, quite a sick joke at the end... :) Funny though.
