Derren Brown

his nervous twitches/ticks are really districting though and dont really come across in the TV show.

Just seen Derren Brown a few days ago and I noticed this twitch of his throughout the show. Also I noticed how he practically runs around the stage always appearing in such a rush. Then again this is very apparent in his TV shows too

The "unlucky dart throw" is truly amazing, I can't see how he did that.

The other ones could be faked.. the speed reading one was crazy.

I thought that was very strange. Any idea why they done it?

well she did say "if I die on the way home tonight..."

Was a good one.. would like to think I would have worked that one out ;).. as soon as I saw the message and the counter I instantly thought of the pigeons experiment (which was in his book) :D

Wasn't too impressed with his production of a national lottery ticket considering he was just duplicating the same trick in a different form, but I guess it proves some of his points.

So with the guessing the numbers/lottery one does he do it by influencing them to pick the numbers that he wants them to pick, with them then making up a rational (to them) link for why they picked the number themselves???

Oh. I was doing stuff on the PC whilst watching so I must have missed it when she said that :) Kind of obvious now considering all of the things that she done before the dart throwing.

I just can't understand how that dart throwing one was done. Surely thats gotta be a set up? Someone did have time to draw the circle on whilst the camera panned down to the lable on the bottle, and she was in on it. If she wasn't in on it, couldn't someone open up a door on the board behind each card and draw on the card whilst her attention was on the bottle reading the lable?

I just can't logically understand how else that can happen lol

I think if DB started doing his tricks like that it would be very bad for him. i.e. I think people watch his shows because they believe he does the things he does by quite careful manipulation of people and that's fascinating. If people find out one of his tricks was a total setup they would assume they all are (i.e. he tells the actors in the lottery # act what numbers to pick beforehand), now that would be very easy to do but hardly skill full.

That being said I have no possible idea how he could have predicted where the dart was going to land. Predicting that should would pick the queen of hearts might have been an obvious guess, but the chances of her hitting it blindfolded must surely be pretty small.

Seen him live twice and its much more impressive when youre sat a few feet away, his nervous twitches/ticks are really districting though and dont really come across in the TV show.

I've noticed them on TV and wondered why he was doing it. When he talks to the participants he sometimes gives a short nod. I thought it was all part of the act / part of the subliminal message.

I think the people who are oh-so-sure that Brown is a fake and his act is some variation of a set up, are just the sort of person he would find so easy to manipulate.

How does that make any sense?

People who believe in something, or someone, are much more easily manipulated by them. People who doubt will be looking for, and picking at, holes in them.

This is why Brown does tend to "pick" on sceptics. Many of the techniques he uses don't depend on the subject being gullible. Ex-SAS Chris Ryan is a man who was trained in anti-interrogation techniques, yet Brown read him like a Mills and Boon.

Surely the dart trick was done like his "fake" horse racing show a while back. He prob tried it with about 1000 people of the street and one was bound to hit the card whilst blind folded. He just didint show us the other 999 people who missed?

Because showing the failed attempts isn't entertaining at all?
The DVD's usually show examples where his mind games don't work, just to show there is no "magic" at work here.

Exactly. He is a 'magician', following in a long line of entertainers that create illusions to their audience, not perform magic. Nor is he a psychological God.

His shows are tricks, in one way or another. I'd bet he is tricking the viewers, rather than the supposed participants, most of the time. That horse racing 'trick' was laughable, and I simply did not believe for a second the one where he supposedly convinced people to rob that bank truck.

Have their been many confessions from participants of the show that it was staged and phoney?
