Discrimination on OCUK

Is it just me or does there seem to be a rise in discrimination on OCUK against immigrants/minorities? There seem to be several threads now and again citing extremism as an example of Islamic opinion on western society as if it's normal.

Extremism exists on both sides and has to be accepted, however the GD forum is continually used to highlight opinions which have always existed, not just in the islamic community.

To be honest, I'm a bit fed up of it and I' not Muslim, so I can only imagine how many of the Muslim users on here feel. Yes I can ignore the posts, but thats not the point is it?

To a certain extent it is. Playing devils advocate, why should we let anyone into our country if a certain part of them are going to cause so much trouble?

Nah, it's basically the same principle that nearly all vehemently anti-gay people are actually gay, most of the vehemently anti-immigrant/muslim posters on here are actually subconsciously immigrants & muslims.

I'm not muslim either but what annoys me is 'pre-flaming' for want of a better term - ie those who express their anti-minority opinions and in the same sentence say something along the lines 'Yeah just wait to see posts trying to sympathise with the minority' as if they are so insecure about their argument they aren't able to defend their position if the need arises.

I'm not going into whether or not I think immigration policy in the UK should be changed. That's not why I posted. I posted because there is a lot of content appearing which makes the Muslim population look bad. In many ways this is no different to a tabloid rag, creating a problem through mass publicity of something that is not that common.

Racist. :p

I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinion, hence threads.

But you see it in everyday life. Classes, stereotypes, it happens all over the place. A certain percentage of them get loud enough and hey presto, that group has that image associated with them. If the muslims feel offended, then it's not just the bigots they should take offence with, it should be the ones who established that image in the first place, i.e. the extremists.

Unfortunately, are government has been taking a unhealthy obsession to cut discrimination of any sort ion this country (disabilities, race, ect ect). So much so that you now have positive discrimination which makes the general majority feel very uneasy and even worse resentful. Then you have the minority of the minorities making it even worse.

Why should some one I know get turned down from the police because he's white?

Why should there be a disabled person as a secretary yet she can't do her job and has a full time council worker to do her job for her.

Why should single mums/poor people/immigrants ect get a house before us normal workers.

Why do we have large proportions of cities that are like a foreign country where you would be lucky to find some one who's fluent in English, with no integration. Ect ect

These problems aren't huge like the papers say, but it is a problem which is getting worse. Yet if we try to speak out, we instantly get your a racist  .

I agree, and to an extent the Irish suffered in the same way in the UK for a long time. My uncle was treated as a second class citizen in England in the 80s for being a young Irish male. The fact is, it's not right, and continually drawing attention to lunatic opinions makes a meal out of the problem and only serves to alienate a lot of immigrants. That is not right.

Discussion tends to follow trends in society.

As for discrimination, i don't see any.

that's how I see it, tensions are high in many areas of society and this is reflected in the content of whst is posted

discrimination obviously will not be tolerated but legitimate free speech is welcomed
